“ If you normally shoot pictures with a mobile phone camera, or if you want to try your hand at digital photography, the A470 is a great place to start. Offering very good image quality with a nice set of controls, the A470 is a fine snapshot camera that sets a great example of how less can be more in the realm of digital photography. With its lower-pixel-count sensor, the A470 produces better images than its competition, because it’s not trying to be something it’s not. Canon has cleverly assessed the limits of what can be done with a camera at this price point... ”

“ If you are looking for a cheaper digital camera then the Canon Powershot A470 is one of the best choices you can make. It may not be the most stylish camera in the shops, but it takes a very good picture.... ”

“ Despite its very low cost the Canon PowerShot A470 acquits itself well. The build quality could be better, the control layout has a couple of major problems and it's a lot larger and heavier than it really needs to be, but it makes up for these faults with extremely fast performance, excellent autofocus especially in low light, and even pretty good image quality, although it does have a few problems in this area. In general though the A470 is a genuine bargain and you won't find much better for the price.... ”

“ Overall, the Canon PowerShot A470 is sure to be a crowd pleaser. It comes in fun colors, is easy to operate, yet offers a handful of more advanced features for more experienced users. It's small, pocketable, and has minimal controls to fiddle with. Add to this the Canon A470's great exposure and color handling, and a very low price and you have a classic bargain digital camera. What more could you ask? For around $129.99, you get a 7.1-megapixel CCD, 3.4x optical zoom lens, Canon's Face Detection and Motion Detection technologies, and a host of available scene modes and creative tools. If you're in the market for an inexpensive, portable digital camera that performs well, the PowerShot A470 definitely deserves consideration.... ”

“ The PowerShot A470 is a slick-looking camera. From the colored accent running down its midsection to its wide orientation and silver gleam, this offering is certainly snazzier than most other entries in the PowerShot "A" line. It seems the further a camera is positioned from the prosumer models, the more liberal Canon becomes with their designs, and to good ends.

The top of the body houses the power and shutter-release buttons, and, keeping with the minimalistic layout, the back simply features three buttons, a four-way controller, and Canon's typical mode-wheel. To the left is the 2.5 inch LCD viewfinder, a size made possible thanks to the absence of a pinhole viewfinder, a needless fixture on most other PowerShot A variations.... ”

“ When I first saw the A470, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it: how to reconcile a good specs sheet with some heavy corner cutting in a few places, including the styling? Trying to sum up this camera after shooting with it for a couple of weeks, I'm left with much the same dilemma. The Powershot A470 lives up to expectations, such as they are, for the most part and really exceeds them in a few places. Considering the price, serious disappointments are almost nonexistent, and even taking cost considerations out of the equation, there's not that much to complain about

Ultimately, much of what I said in a recent review of the functionally similar, comparably priced Nikon Coolpix L15 applies here as well. If you can only spend just over $100, the A470 does about everything a casual snapshooter needs a camera to do. Serious shooters looking for a bargain, however, would do better moving up one level. With some incredibly powerful, formerly mid-priced compacts falling below the $150 mark of late, there are probably better deals for users looking to learn the picture taking ropes – many of these step-up models also have optical/mechanical image stabilization, which the PowerShot A470 lacks. But if a simple camera is all you want, all you need, or all you can afford, the A470 is an easy choice to feel good about.... ”

“ For the money, the Canon PowerShot A470 is a great digital camera. The chunky, sub-$150 shooter doesn't have many bells or whistles, but it shoots quickly in brighter light and produces very nice-looking pictures. It doesn't work very well in low light, but that's a flaw shared by most snapshot cameras in general. If you want to spend as little cash as possible for a decent camera, the PowerShot A470 is one of the best choices currently available.... ”

“ One of the latest "A" series models from Canon this year, the PowerShot A470 is one of the best deals available for an entry-level digital camera. The combination of excellent quality images, increased performance from previous models and the all around ease of use makes this camera perfect for anyone looking for their first digital camera or someone needing a simple camera to keep for use on a moments notice. With an estimated price of US$130 or less, the A470 is almost impossible to beat when looking for quality and affordability. ... ”
