“ The camera might offer a fast capture speed and a long zoom, but the EX-F1 offers little else as a practical camera for daily use. We were surprised by the sluggishness of the start-up (around 4 seconds) and the time it takes to process those images for you to view back.

The 6-megapixel resolution is unlikely to allow you much room for manoeuvre when it comes to cropping or printing your images larger than A4. Combine that with a rather over-complicated camera design that has so many dials it leaves you having to read over the manual a couple of times before you get started and the EX-F1 is really only for those looking to capture and study the moment rather than memories of your family.

As a tool for sports coaches this is just the thing you'll need, for everyone else, if you aren't planning to use that frame rate day-in day-out you'll only be disappointed and frustrated.... ”

“ The Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 is one awesome prosumer digicam. While I was hoping for a bit better high ISO performance from the 6-megapixel CMOS image sensor, I came to the realization that Casio built this camera for Speed! Like an F1 race car, this is the fastest camera we have ever tested in the burst mode category. Shooting performance all together was great, and with 60fps at full resolution, you are sure to be able to capture that once in a life time shot at the kids baseball, football, basketball games, etc. While this camera can be used as a photographic tool with all of the advanced and manual controls, it still has plenty of user-friendly exposure options that will allow almost anyone to snap some great photos. If you are hesitant on taking the plunge into the dSLR world and want a versatile and fast digital camera with a SLR feel, look no further. However, you're gonna have to dig pretty deep into your pockets, as the EX-F1 has a MSRP of US$999. While I personally feel this a bit over priced, if you are looking to be the fastest "shot" in town, it might be just the ticket; partner.... ”

“ Casio's EXILIM EX-F1 promises features no digital camera on the market has offered before, and it delivers - with some reservations. The camera's strongest suit is the option to shoot up to 60 full-res 6-megapixel images in a second. Combined with a sophisticated prerecord capability that continually captures images to a buffer when you half-press the shutter and saves the most recent ones to memory when push the shutter all the way, the tools you need to never miss another great shot are at hand. Image quality wasn't great, but it's perfectly acceptable for on-screen viewing or consumer-size prints. The other headline feature is capturing movies at incredible speed -- as many as 1200 frames per second, producing a slow-motion effect previously found only in science lab experiments. We loved this for a day or two, but it lost the ability to raise a giggle pretty quickly. Of course, your smileage may vary.

There are ultra-zoom cameras that are far more portable, and available at far less than the $999 price of an EX-F1, or you could opt to spend a grand on a high-quality digital SLR with superior image quality and the option to use interchangeable lenses. That's our practical side talking. When it comes to having fun with a digital camera, the EX-F1 has no equal.... ”

“ Casio are true pioneers; constantly breaking new ground. The Casio EXILIM Pro EX-F1 is the first model equipped with a 60fps specification and Full HD mode. Presuming there is work being done to a higher resolution sensor with at least the same capacities, and hoping for the necessary improvements to the signal / noise ratios and the performance of the lens; we can only anxiously look forward to the next generation. It may be clear; if you’ve always wanted to shoot and film on High-Speed, you will have a unique and innovative product at your disposal with specifications that have become affordable. If we remove these unique specifications, what's left is an (expensive) Megazoom camera performing averagely. ... ”

“ The Casio Exilim EX-F1 is a unique camera, and one which may herald a new generation of hybrid still/video cameras. It has several unique abilities which some users will find extremely useful, however it also has some problems. Its still image quality, while good, is no match for the best of the current high spec super-zooms, and its alarmingly high price will also discourage potential buyers. It's a brave attempt by Casio to break the status quo of the current digital camera market, but one I fear that may not succeed.... ”

“ For the fastest camera in the world, it certainly has its slow points. Power on time and focusing is slow to the point where you could miss your fast moving object because the camera isn't ready.

The Casio EX-F1 does have manual focus to overcome this problem and the function ring on the lens can be assigned to focus, but should this really be necessary? Maybe, but not to the degree of the EX-F1.

With the cameras that Casio are now producing I think they're on their way to being a major contender in the hardware circuit sooner than we think.

If you're looking for a backup prosumer with stupidly fast fps and want to mess around with slow motion film, take a look at the Casio EX-F1.... ”

“ I call the Casio EX-F1 a time machine for two reasons. The first is that it provides us with a peek into the future of both still photography and video. The second is that it offers many exciting different ways of recording still and moving images, some of which almost seem as if they were designed by H.G. Wells.

The Casio EX-F1 is, I believe, the harbinger of the still and video cameras of tomorrow, and tomorrow is a lot closer than many people think. The old joke has it that today is tomorrow's yesterday, and if you can get your head around that you're ready to learn more about the EX-F1.

But be forwarded – though the EX-F1 offers a lot, as we'll see it also fails to deliver in several key areas. ... ”
