“ Overall, the S10 is pretty peppy with a fast 1.5-second start-up time and relatively little shutter lag of 0.4 second in high-contrast scenes and 0.8 second in low. Shot-to-shot time is good at 1 second and slows only to 2.3 seconds when using flash. The flash isn't very powerful, though, even when adjusted up one or two steps in the main menu, so don't expect this camera to light up a room. Equipped with three continuous shooting modes, the S10 offers a slow rate of less than one frame per second at full resolution; you can also take three quick consecutive high-resolution shots with flash. If you want more speed, the S10 can deliver at almost 4 fps but you'll end up with low-resolution 1MB files.

ISO starts at 50 and extends only to 1,600 manually; you have to go into the Best Shot mode for High Sensitivity but it's best that you stick with the lowest ISO possible to keep image noise to a minimum. Going above ISO 400 really isn't recommended unless you plan to make snapshot-size prints.

Fussy photographers might not be satisfied with the S10's image quality, and upon close examination, photos are a little soft, especially around the edges where there's significant lens distortion. Colors are reproduced naturally, albeit without much detail. Purple fringing appeared along some high-contrast edges, but not all of them. The S10 is far from being perfect but it looks cool, has some useful features for point-and-shooters who want a little more control, and, frankly, I was pretty happy with most of my snapshots... ”

“ The Casio S10 is a mixed bag. A thin mixed bag, but a mixed bag. As with other Casio cameras I've reviewed, a few features were not just unusual but impressive. Detect Blur, for example, is a winner. And a telescoping lens in that thin shell, rather than folded optics. Not to mention a Movie mode that can do more than 640x480 if not quite HD. The YouTube movie mode might be useful to people wanting to minimize upload times for their movies, but the loss in quality can be considerable. (But, then, YouTube crunches the videos a lot, so maybe there's not that much difference by the time it gets done.) Finally, there's the "Whiteboard" scene mode that might be enough justification all by itself for the average college student.

But there were other features that just weren't up to snuff, like Face Detection. And that 3x zoom. And the poor auto focus performance in low light. Then there were features that were, well, unconvincing. Like trigger sensitivity (nearly undetectable) and High Speed Continuous shooting that only captures 2-Mp images.

Bottom line, this is a very appealing little camera, with a nice heft and very stylish looks. It has a few nifty features, but we felt that its limitations were too great to be overcome by its good looks. There are other cameras on the market that will give you better-looking photos, if you can tolerate an even slightly thicker body.... ”

“ The Casio Exilim Card EX-S10 is a very nice little camera; it looks good, is well made, and can produce good low ISO shots. The barrel distortion at the wide end of the lens is a lack in terms of the lens performance as, worryingly, is the odd blooming on brighter subjects. However, the many high quality movie options plus the YouTube mode ensure it will get a lot of attention. ... ”

“ At just .59 of an inch thick, Casio introduces the Exilim S10. This ultra-thin, ultra-compact digital camera contains all the exciting features of its Exilim siblings, but returns to the stylishly thin body. It features a 10-megapixel imaging sensor, 2.7" SuperClear LCD screen, 3x optical zoom lens and some very advanced auto shutter and face detection features. As seen on other Exilim models, it also includes the preset "For Ebay" and "For YouTube" modes along with many other "Best Shot" pre-programmed shooting modes. There is also a separate record button that allows you to instantly start capturing video while in most still shooting modes.

Bottom Line - A stylish and ultra-thin 10-megapixel digicam, the Casio Exilim S10 is also quite the performer. This camera is very easy to use, and comes loaded with pre-programmed "best shot" modes for any shooting situation. The only setback is the outdoor exposures were sometimes a little overexposed. With a MSRP of around US$250, it's a good value.... ”

“ I'm extremely impressed with this camera. The expansion of the smile detection auto trigger to include panning and blur detection are a fabulous step forward to help people improve their quality of photographs.

If you're in the mood for a thin, good looking camera with features dripping off it, then have a serious look at this one.... ”

“ The Casio Exilim Card EX-S10's strengths lie in its attractive styling, it automatic-shutter modes, and its top-notch video. It's image quality isn't quite as notable for its price-point - we would have preferred its larger sensor be wed to fewer pixels for better noise-management and more dynamic contrast - but its photographs are by no means a deal breaker. For those searching for a cool looking camera that takes good photos and packs features galore, the EX-S10 could fit the bill. ... ”

“ As a small snapshooter the Casio may not suit everyone, even though it offers something for everyone. The handling is down to taste and personal physiology, so we can't expect the perfect camera, but the small form is quite fiddly.
In terms of images the camera is also hit and miss, with reasonable but not great results. A stand out feature is the dynamic range but other than that the camera produces too many blurred, noisy and distorted images. Most snappers won't notice, but there are so many cameras available that are better that it would be a shame to miss out just through ignorance.... ”

“ The S10 is a good camera if many ways. It looks good, it's easy to shoot with, and it performs well in many areas: white balance, LCD screen, and auto focus (when pre-focused). But there were also areas in which the S10 was below average, most noticeably the lack of optical/mechanical image stabilization and weak ISO above 400.

Which leads me to my recommendation: the S10 is a good ultracompact camera when shooting in any well-lit area. If you are an amateur photographer who shoots mostly shots of outdoor events, family shots, or well-lit indoor events, the S10 could be the camera for you. ... ”
