“ Gadget fans will love it but, while the Casio Exilim EX-Z300's features can improve the success of your shots in very specific circumstances, in overall terms, the picture quality is no better than average. Besides, automation is supposed to relieve you of the need to think, but some of the functions on offer here are halfway to rocket-science levels of complexity... ”

“ There are a number of small digital cameras in the $300 price range of the Casio Exilim EX-Z300, but the Z300 more than holds its own when it comes to shooting speed alone. That said, though, some competitive models definitely handle low light situations better than this particular model. Depending on what your shooting needs are, these trade-offs are worth considering... ”

“ I managed to get along quite well with the Casio Exilim EX-Z300. It is able to take a decent snapshot in most situations. This camera does not come cheap though. If you like the idea of being able to shoot short HD quality movies you can justify the price tag. Otherwise you might find better value for money elsewhere... ”

“ The Casio Exilim EX-Z300 is stuck right in the middle of the extensive Exilim family, sporting an average 1/2.3" sensor and a 4x optical zoom, which is slightly generous considering the camera's compact size. We wanted more from the interface and less BS, er, Best Shot modes. There are 38 total on this camera, which is great until you realize most of them utilize the same settings. Low light was an issue with the Exilim EX-Z300, and most images were attacked by some form of noise, fringing or blowing out. The big old LCD screen is nice to have, but not in the sun. We found the Exilim EX-Z300 to be just another average compact, although the Multi-Motion Image BS mode is oodles of fun if you have a tripod and a photographer with a very steady hand... ”

“ The Z300 isn't a bad camera, it's just thoroughly mediocre with an annoying menu system. It did very well in a couple of tests, like resolution, dynamic range and manual noise, but struggled with automatic noise levels, video resolution and white balance. In our speed tests it handled slowly, and the maximum shutter speed of 1/2 second without using a special scene mode is restrictive. The menu system's insistence on kicking you out every time you alter a setting is aggravating, as was the use of separate buttons for playback and shooting. All these little annoyances combined with its high list price of $300 make for an unconvincing purchase... ”

“ Casio's Exilim EX-Z300 is an appealing ultra-compact model with loads of 'cool' features. Shooting performance could have been a little better, however with some practice pre-focusing, you're sure to capture those special moments. With great image quality, plenty of exposure options, and a full HD movie mode, the EX-Z300 has a lot to offer for US $249. If you're one who is in the market for a fully loaded ultra-compact, at an affordable price, this "top of the line" Exilim Zoom model just might be the ticket... ”
