“ The Z450 isn't that exciting though. From the design, to the handling of the on-screen icons, it feels a step behind some of the other players in this market. The dubious quality of the zoom ring was a cause of concern for us, something that rivals have no problem with.

Overall, the results from the camera are pleasing enough in good conditions, but the lower light performance is poor - the headline HD video capture suffers from the same problem. A range of options do give some creative scope, but this camera is mostly pitched to those wanting a simple point and shoot with a few fun features.

Online discounts are starting to make the Z450 more appealing over the RRP of £199, which is a little on the high side.... ”

“ Casio's Exilim EX-Z450 is a fun camera. If your into playing and being creative with your video shoots, this is for you. We had a great deal of fun learning how to use the Dynamic Photo option both in still image and animated modes. The images were crisp and clean with little chromatic aberrations. We were even happy with the HD video quality. Unfortunately the shot to shot performance of this camera was disappointing and the lack of proper use of a 4-way control is unfortunate. The Z450 has a MSRP of US$199, which puts it at a nice price-point for a point and shoot camera especially considering that it can layer not only 2 but several images together right in the camera. If you want a nice consumer camera that takes great pictures, has long battery life and allows for a good deal of creativity, this is for you. However, if you're in the market for something that can capture fast action or need to take many shots quickly, you might want to consider some ofher models, like the Exilim EX-FC100... ”

“ The Casio EX-Z450 is a likeable enough compact camera, offering a good package of compact dimensions, versatile wide-angle lens, large LCD screen and HD movies, but ultimately it fails to excite.

The 4x, 24-112mm lens is versatile enough, covering everything from wide-angle landscapes to head and shoulder portraits. We have reviewed other comparably sized compacts with bigger ranges though, such as Panasonic's DMC-ZX1 with its 8x zoom. The LCD screen is appealingly large, but suffers from a rather average resolution of 230,000 dots, while the HD movie mode is hamstrung by a 10 minute time limit, large file sizes, average sound quality and most importantly the inability to use the optical zoom lens during filming.

Image quality is only satisfactory, with noise and loss of detail at relatively slow ISO speeds, limited maximum shutter speed of 4 seconds, and a disappointing macro mode. This isn't the camera to buy if you're looking for the best ever image quality, but the EX-Z450 does produce well-exposed and accurate photos that will please the majority of its target audience.

Which leaves us with a well-built, fairly compact and stylish little camera that doesn't offer enough features or image quality to stand out from the crowd. The Casio EX-Z450 is only really worth a look if you can find it at a discounted price... ”
