“ I'm a little disappointed in some of the more basic functions of the camera such as the operating speed and the focus problem at high ISO.

It's also worth noting that this is the first camera I've reviewed that I had to load the drivers because the computer wouldn't recognise it straight from USB.

This is a good camera for a starter in photography or for a younger member of the family due to it's price point making it more expendable. It has plenty of preset modes with a manual mode allowing extra features such as exposure compensation and ISO control. ... ”

“ I kind of like the Fujifilm FinePix J10. It is not going to compete with a DSLR with interchangeable lenses, nor with a high-end compact like the Canon G9, but it isn't trying to, either. It breaks new ground, with a combination of features, size, weight, cost, and usability that is somewhat unique.

For the target market it is apparently aimed at, I think it hit the mark. This is an inexpensive camera that includes most of the needed features, without a lot of extra bells and whistles. I would not ponder whether to carry it or not: I would just pocket it. Also, as a beginner camera you would be hard pressed to beat it. Got kids who want a camera? Using film with an Olympus Stylus Zoom and thinking of going digital? Don't want to have to get out a manual to be able use your camera? Tired of low resolution cell phone snapshots? The Fuji FinePix J10 could be for you.... ”

“ The Fujifilm FinePix J10 is a nice-looking little camera, and is competitively priced compared to its main rivals. It is a bit short on modern features though, and some of the controls are very fiddly and annoying to use. It also has a major image quality problem with very visible vignetting at wide-angle zoom settings. Add to this its poor low-light focusing ability and I'm afraid it's not looking good for Fuji's new ultra-compact.... ”

“ All in all, this is really a question of budget and how much you get for your money. The screen is a serious shortcoming and would compel us to look elsewhere, perhaps for something with less than 8MP, which would be fine for normal holiday snaps and web sharing photography. Other minor niggles are the lack of memory card in the box. The price here is perhaps the biggest bonus, but jumping straight for the big MP numbers is probably not the right answer.

As a closing remark, we also didn’t like the way it deleted images. This is nothing technical, but delete an image and it sort of dissolves off the screen like a blocky 8-bit game of yesteryear, which looks awful. ... ”

“ There's no shortage of cheap, easy-to-use shooters out there, but the real trick is to find one that takes good pictures without sacrificing key features. The 8-megapixel Canon PowerShot A590 IS holds the crown for the best entry-level camera we've seen, offering lots of advanced controls and excellent image quality for its wallet-friendly sub-$200 price tag. The new 8.2-megapixel Fuji FinePix J10 produces decent image quality but is a bit short on features. It has an intuitive, elegant menu system, built-in image stabilization, and an ultracompact body similar to the credit-card-size Casio Exilim EX-S880. Despite these pluses, it has too many limitations to recommend to anyone other than a first-time digital camera user. ... ”
