“ Overall, I was impressed by the Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd. This camera is a good all-around shooter that takes great portraits, landscape shots, and has a good feature set. Some of the key features that people will enjoy with the S1000fd is the face detection technology, which will recognize up to six faces within the frame, the panorama feature which makes taking panoramic shots easy (with a tripod), and the auto-bracketing feature which will take three quick photos at different exposures – perfect for HDR photos... ”

“ The FujiFilm FinePix S1000fd is a bit of a mixed bag. While the feature list makes this seem like a very appealing model, the below average shooting performance, horrible High ISO image noise, and just "average" 10-megapixel image quality results lower its appeal. This model does have the ability to capture nice photos, just be sure you lock the ISO at 200 or below. With a street price of US$249 or less, it is a very affordable super-zoom model, we just suggest you do your research and look at all the offerings in this class and price range. ... ”

“ The Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd sets itself up as a jack-of-all-trades device for a very reasonable price. On that claim it very nearly succeeds – though it's not perfect. White balance is variable, there's some softness at maximum wide-angle and maximum telephoto zoom settings – though neither ruins the shot – and it's really not worth straying above ISO 800 despite the fact that up to ISO 6400 looks good on paper. However, the Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd does offer some interesting and useful hand holding features that make it easy enough – almost – for your mother to use, whilst throwing a few enthusiast pleasing, or at least intriguing, gimmicks into the mix. Coming to this camera straight after I'd been playing with the S100FS showed that its more expensive bigger brother is in a different class – although, since it's roughly twice the price, that's to be expected. The usefulness of having a whopping 18x optical zoom at your disposal shouldn't be underestimated however, and for the price the solidly built S8100fd, though it's not the prettiest camera around, literally feels like pretty good value at £299. On that note the Fujifilm FinePix S8100fd comes recommended. There may be better performing bridge models or super zooms out there, but not many in the S8100fd's class... ”

“ FujiFilm's FinePix S1000fd is a decent ultra-zoom with a small body, but its lack of image stabilisation makes the large lens much less useful and the sluggish performance will irritate many users... ”

“ For those of you after a small digital camera with a long zoom and creative features, then this is a camera for you to consider. It's lightweight, stupidly easy to use and has a few nifty little features that other companies don't offer.

As a smaller version of the S8100fd, the S1000fd isn't as well made but it is around £100 less. For £160, you can't really go wrong for the features you get. Performance wise it's a little lacking but shouldn't be too much of a problem if you're not in a hurry... ”

“ The S1000fd is obviously aimed at serious shooters, but it lacks some of the basic features that a photography enthusiast would expect – manual color, saturation, and contrast adjustments, for instance – plus it doesn't provide image stabilization. This puts the camera in something of a bind: the S1000fd doesn't really measure up for the serious/creative photography demographic, but it is too complex and difficult to use for the casual shutterbug and point-and-shoot crowd.

Overall the S1000fd comes in somewhere on the low side of the middle of the pack, and while this camera is cheaper than much of its competition a low price isn't really a bargain if you have to give up too much in terms of features, performance, and usability. With the likes of Canon's S5 IS and Olympus's SP570 UZ out there, the S1000fd simply doesn't cover enough ground to earn a strong recommendation... ”

“ The FinePix S1000fd might offer a 12x optical zoom and the promise of a stack of features to help you take better pictures but we struggled to feel the effect.

The image quality is average, the interface clunky and the overall camera design is button heavy. Compared to the Nikon P80, also in this long optical zoom class, we would opt for the Nikon every time... ”

“ While the Fujifilm FinePix S1000fd is an appealingly cute little camera with a huge zoom range for its size, and is relatively simple to use, it lacks a number of important features, most notably image stabilisation. Performance is mediocre at best, and while it performs well in low light it is lacking in final image quality. Whether you're looking for a small cheap zoom camera or a well-specified super-zoom there are better alternatives on the market, several of them other Fujifilm models... ”
