“ If you want the most zoom with the most features for less than $200, the Fujifilm FinePix S1500 is probably the best way to go. There are other models that have more zoom in its price range, but aren't as versatile. Though its photo quality isn't great, it will suffice for those only making 5x7 or smaller prints or going straight to the Web with the results. It can perform frustratingly slow, though, and that's something you just can't work around... ”

“ Like all bridge cameras the Fujifilm FinePix S1500 sets itself up as a jack-of-all-trades device, and this time for a reasonable price indicative of its manufacturer's mass-market intentions. In fact, for just over £200, it feels like a lot of camera for the money.

Like most things in life it's not perfect however. White balance is variable, metering occasionally off, highlights blown, there's visible softness towards the edges at maximum wideangle and overall at maximum telephoto zoom settings – though neither is a deal breaker – and it's really not worth straying above ISO 800 despite the fact a maximum capability of ISO 6400 looks good on paper. Don't get too ambitious, shoot in sunny conditions and the Fujifilm FinePix S1500 won't disappoint however.

In conclusion, like its predecessors the S1500 does offer some interesting and useful hand holding features that make it easy enough – almost – for anyone to use, whilst throwing a few enthusiast pleasing/intriguing gimmicks into the mix. The panorama feature for example is both simple to use and fun, delivering better than expected results.

On that note the Fujifilm FinePix S1500 comes Recommended. There are better performing bridge models or super-zooms out there if a broader focal range is high up among your wishes, but for the price investment in an S1500 can't really be discouraged, and it does offer a friendly way for anyone trading up from a basic point and shoot to achieve a wider variety of image taking... ”

“ Though no match for the picture quality and response time of an entry level DSLR, the S1500 is more approachable, the only extras required being a removable SD or SDHC media card for storing pictures plus a set of rechargeable AAs. It’s a "one size fits all" digital camera for those who have outgrown the limitations of a humble snapshot, but still want something the mother in law will be able to fathom... ”

“ The S1500 is what we consider an "SLR" styled prosumer digicam, which offers a wealth of exposure options and control, along with the look and feel of a dSLR. This includes a nice large hand grip, pop-up flash unit, and large lens barrel. Fuji did a great job of designing the body and layout of the camera controls. I found the large hand-grip offers a nice firm hold on the camera, and the various camera controls are all within reach of your finger tips. Another change from the S1000 is Fuji replaced the Drive mode button on the top of the grip with a new Dual IS mode button. The Drive mode can now be accessed by pressing "down" on the 4-wa controller. As with most super-zoom models, the S1500 is equipped with an Electronic Viewfinder or EVF. It is actually just a tiny 0.2-inch LCD that is magnified (no dioptric adjustment) in the eye piece.

Both the EVF and 2.7-inch LCD offer a live view with either a 30 or 60fps refresh rate. Like all EVFs, they have some advantages and disadvantages. While you can view all of the menus and exposure information, review images, and use the aids like Grid lines, you still have to battle with the fact that the live image blanks out during burst capture. I found that the eye piece on the S1500 was Very small, making it hard to block out ambient light. Like we saw on the S1000, the LCD works well both indoors and out, but does not feature an anti-reflective coating. While I was able to frame our outdoor shots without much problem, there are still many angles where the LCD reflects the sun, making it difficult to see what you are framing. Indoors, the live image gains up well to help you see the subject in lower lighting. I found the menu system was very easy to navigate, thanks to the logical organization, and the fact that is is almost identical to past models.

Bottom line - like we the S1000, FujiFilm's FinePix S1500 is a mixed bag. While offering some very appealing features, the below average shooting performance and just "average" 10-megapixel image quality results lower its draw in this model rich category. While this is an affordable super-zoom model with a street price of US$249 or less, we highly recommend you take a good look at the competition before making your final decision... ”

“ Additional features including sensor-shift image stabilisation, scene recognition and tracking AF, as well as some minor image quality tweaks make the S1500 a worthwhile upgrade over the S1000fd. Its compact size, decent build quality and comfortable handling make it a capable and versatile all-rounder and a good value alternative to more expensive travel cameras... ”

“ I have to end the Fujifilm FinePix S1500 Review by telling you that this 10MP digital camera is probably the best around at this price. Actually, I said before that it’s very cheap for what it has to offer. You will be deeply satisfied by the quality of the Fujifilm S1500 camera. Good specs, great prices. The Fujifilm FinePix S1500 10MP Digital Camera is available now in stores at a starting price of $199 shipped, but it can be more expensive depending on where you live, however, I am sure that a better offer will come along even if $199 shipped is great too... ”
