“ These 10-megapixel ultra-zoom digital cameras both pack versatile feature sets and 15x zoom lenses into relatively portable frames for under $300. There won’t be many consumers regretting either choice at the current price; however, the Kodak nudges out the Fujifilm in most still photo quality and all major video quality measures. Without worrying about investing in a system or additional lenses beyond this purchase, the Kodak EasyShare Z1015 IS is the clear winner here... ”

“ The design of the Fujifilm Finepix S2000 HD won't suit all users, as it's simply too bulky. For those who are keen to get the most from their digital photography, however, they are sure to find this a well-specified and fantastically affordable introduction to the world of high-end digital cameras... ”

“ The Megazoom concept has been around for quite a few years now. That said; the only subsequent changes have been an increase in resolution and an improved zoom range. I must admit that the quality of the picture has improved and the application of an image stabilizer significantly contributed to this. Yet, occasionally, the application of several innovations is not always a guarantee of improved quality. This is the case for the Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD. In itself, it is an interesting camera, even more so if we take into consideration the enhanced HD functionality, yet, from a photography perspective, it is clear that the camera cannot keep up with the competition. And that is the answer to the question of whether the Fujifilm S2000HD is able to differentiate itself from its competitors and above them. As far as we're concerned, the bottom line is that this Fujifilm Megazoom camera is just an average camera... ”

“ So, what should the photographer be thinking if presented with the FujiFilm S2000HD as a possible selection? For all its problems, the camera does take good images. The color fidelity is more than acceptable. We would likely recommend always leaving the camera set to Program Mode and selecting any of the ISO settings below 1600, since there appears to be little to no difference in noise in the images.

Whether the photographer uses the LCD monitor on the back of the camera or the electronic viewfinder, you will be presented with the same amount of viewfinder information. The camera is fairly fast in its response to the shutter release and there is little to no annoying shutter lag, other than in lower-light conditions. The S2000HD does do what it says it can do, and the images are of average to good quality. However, it has some annoying to downright bothersome aspects to it, aspects that should have been easily addressed in it’s conception. If powerful zoom in a compact form-factor is what you’re after, however, you might be willing to overlook this camera’s short-comings... ”

“ The S20000HD is a camera that I would steer enthusiast or the semi pros away from, despite Fujifilm’s stated aim with this model. But it will certainly prove popular among the more novice snapper and those needing that HD movie recording functionality, which despite being 720p is still very good indeed. More importantly, the excellent lens focal length range and the low ISO image quality are very good indeed, so worth a look over as at that price, it’s good value for money too... ”

“ The market for digital cameras with extra long zoom lenses is crowded and it takes something special for a camera to really stand out. In my view the Fuji Finepix S2000HD does not match up to the best cameras in this section. It is true that it is not the most expensive super zoom camera, but I feel by paying that bit more you will get better value for money. ... ”

“ Although the Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD has the usual compliment of creative controls and 'DSLR lite' looks, suggesting that it's suitable for the budding pro seems a little wide of the mark. So, is the S2000HD alternatively a good option for the relative photographic novice who nevertheless requires a large zoom reach? The answer is pretty much yes. It's fun to use, delivers the results and even if, in the final analysis, they're neither as sharp or as evenly exposed as some of the competition, overall they're perfectly acceptable given the build and asking price. The zoom lens is of course the true talking point. The fact that the 15x zoom can be used in both video and stills modes is a bonus, and the quality of the video, although not quite full HD, is certainly better than that usually found on superzooms – and another reason perhaps for a compact user to upgrade to this model rather than a fully blown DSLR (unless going for a Nikon D90 or Canon 5D Mark II, not really the same target market). Factor in that this is a user-friendly model in size, shape, features and performance, and for those who want a lot of camera for relatively little outlay, the Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD would seem to fit the bill nicely.... ”

“ I'm surprised at quite how basic some of the features are on this camera. With its flamboyant showing off of HD technology and exterior boasts of manual controls it lacks in certain key areas that I always expect to get excellent results in.

Unfortunately, it seems that adding a new HD feature has put all other functions to a back burner with even the film simulations at the minimum amount. I'm disappointed in the noise results and the red-eye from the flash. The latter is something which people shouldn't have to worry about these days yet here it is.

I think it's a standard camera and the only reason I think you may wish to buy it is for the HD quality video, if you're going to use it. Even that isn't full HD as it runs at 1280x720 although they've at least fitted a HD output to support the extra information.... ”

“ The Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD didn't make a great first impression, with fiddly and confusing controls and variable automatic performance. It's not a patch on the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18, say, for ease of use. But once we dived into the S2000's tweakable options we warmed to this superzoom, impressed with the quality of the lens and clever playback features.... ”
