“ Although only a year old, the Kodak EasyShare Z1012 IS has not aged well, and looks very weak by comparison to rival models, especially more recent ones. One can forgive the utilitarian design and slightly limited range of features, but the extremely slow performance and shoddy image quality are damning faults. It is also quite expensive for its specification. There are much better cameras for not much more money... ”

“ As one of the new Kodak Easyshare Z series cameras, the Z1012 IS is an excellent addition. With the second highest available zoom with optical image stabilization (O.I.S.) on a Kodak model, a 10-megapixel imaging sensor, full auto through full manual shooting modes and HD video mode (1280x720 30fps), this camera is packed full of features. The performance is good, however, it would be nice to see the camera able to capture more than 3 images at a time both in burst and single shot modes. The image quality both indoors and out is excellent with vivid, natural colors. With a MSRP of US$299.95, this camera would be a great choice for anyone looking for a mega-zoom model that doesn't mind the small burst modes... ”

“ Overall, the Kodak Z1012 IS usually succeeds in producing nice pictures, but some parts of the camera just get in the way. At the end of the day for me, judging a camera comes down to its ability to produce a good image. On this score, this camera is generally a success.

At times, though, a good picture was prevented due to control issues, processing limitations, too much noise, or one of the Z1012's other quirks. If you are looking for an ultrazoom camera that takes nice pictures the Kodak is there – but users considering this camera should also be aware of some of its oddities and performance issues... ”

“ It's easy to sneer at clumsy, sluggish superzooms, especially when compared with today's ever nimble, budget digital SLRs. However, this Kodak delivers in some key areas: it's light, fairly quick and easy to use, and has a long, well stabilised lens. If you can get past the weak LCD and EVF and are happy with soft, bright mages, it's a fine camera for the money... ”
