“ The Nikon Coolpix P60 is a well-built (especially solid with two AA batteries inserted) and reasonably priced option for digital beginners or casual snappers, if slightly boringly bringing nothing new to the party. Yes, it delivers image performance that falls within what is expected for this class of camera, but offers few additional bells and whistles to entice a potential purchaser to opt for it in preference to an almost limitless number of competitors. The low-ish resolution and poor performance of the P60's rear LCD screen is the largest disappointment, meaning that under sunny conditions it's a case of 'point and hope' as to ascertaining accurate framing, exposure and focus, and, while the alternative EVF fairs slightly better, it's so small you will find yourself squinting to use it. Still, the Nikon Coolpix P60 is indeed intuitive to use, delivers flattering results under most conditions and offers an outward air of sophistication that few models in its price bracket can muster. So, if you're in the market for an undemanding and relatively frill-free snapshot pocket camera, and given that our complaints are fairly minor and surmountable, it earns a PhotographyBLOG recommendation. Just don't take it out in the sunshine that often... ”

“ The Nikon CoolPix P60 is a big improvement over the disappointing P50. It still has its faults, most notably its slow overall performance and the immensely irritating shutter release logic, but the design, handling and build quality are very good, as is the picture quality. The range of features is better than a simple point-and-shoot, but it will still leave a keen photographer wanting more. It is also quite a lot more expensive than its main competitor, but on the whole not a bad little camera.... ”

“ Overall the P60 is an alright camera, if not a great one. If you are able to work around the flash issues that I experienced and don't worry about a bit of lens distortion, there is not a lot that could be called bad about this camera. Overall, I enjoyed using the P60 – it's compact, it has a good, usable zoom range, it performed quickly and generally flawlessly, and produced nice looking images for the most part.

Unfortunately, with the number of cameras in this category, Nikon needs to step it up a little: strong competition means that being just alright may not, in this particular case, be enough.... ”

“ For a couple of hundred pounds, this isn't a bad camera. Better performances can be attained with other cameras, but you'll more than likely have to pay more.

I'm still dissatisfied with the noise performance. I think after the release of EXPEED, Nikon have a lot to live up to and need to start fitting it to every camera they can.... ”

“ On account of its optically-stabilzed lens and expansive controls, the Nikon Coolpix P60 is a good manual point-and-shoot. However, its design leaves something to be desired, and we found it occasionally difficult to use due to its boxy shape and lack of dial wheel. Still, image quality is pretty good, particularly in terms of dynamic range. All in all the Nikon P60 isn't a bad choice for a manual compact, but given its subpar design and higher starting price, it might not be the best choice, either.... ”

“ The Nikon Coolpix P60 is the same price as the P50 and barring the EVF; it’s a much better camera in terms of performance. There’s some noticeable barrel distortion on that lens, a lens which offers, in my view, a less flexible focal range than the P50’s 28-102mm zoom, so if you can live with those caveats, then I cannot see why you wouldn’t want the P60.

A nice, well specified digital compact that irons out all the performances flaws of the P50 making it a very good compact indeed.... ”
