“ While the Olympus FE-280 is a stylishly designed camera with an impressive set of features, in reality it fails to perform on many accounts. While it scored well in the ISO and colour chart tests, I was unimpressed by the constant problem of blur and evident colour fringing in the landscape test.
The camera also lets itself down with minor details such as the fact that it has no continuous shooting mode and the considerable lag between pressing the shutter release and the shot being taken. At a price of £119 the Olympus FE-280 is a budget price digital camera but with this list of significant problems, I wouldn't even pay that... ”

“ Without being anything extra special the Olympus FE-280 does the job it sets out to do. It is more at home with closer photo opportunities rather than sweeping, scenic shots. You should have little problem getting to know the camera... ”

“ The camera comes with Olympus Master 2 photo organizing, editing, and sharing software--a reasonably strong-featured tool for a freebie. (You'll need it to stitch together panoramas.) Our test unit's box came with four 67-page printed manuals in Italian, French, Portuguese, and English; the explanations in the English version were clear and useful. You'll need it to find out about some features buried in the camera's menus.
The FE-280 is cheap and cute, and it fits easily in my pocket. Anyone with serious photographic ambitions, however, will outgrow it quickly... ”

“ As one of three new additions to the Olympus "FE" lineup, the 280 is definitely the smallest. Sporting an 8- megapixel image sensor, 3x optical zoom, and 21 preprogrammed scene modes, it isn't necessarily small in features. This is an excellent camera for the beginning photographer, or someone that wants to have one around that isn't bulky or in the way. The built-in Guide allows for the user to learn about photography as well as take the best possible pictures in any situation. With a price between $170 and $200, the Olympus FE-280 offers a good value for it's quality and size... ”
