“ The Olympus 565UZ, despite a few flaws, is a capable ultrazoom camera given the right conditions (lots of light being one of them). Its 20x optical zoom lens provides more than enough focal range to cover pretty much every situation that photographers will encounter and a full feature set will meet the needs of enthusiasts and advanced amateurs, without forgetting about snapshooters who want an easy to use megazoom.

The megazoom arena provides some stiff competition, though, but at its sub-$400 price point, the 565UZ represents good value for photographers who are on a budget... ”

“ The Olympus SP-565 UZ is a very powerful "prosumer" model. With excellent image quality, an extremely versatile zoom range, and loads of exposure options for All users, the SP-565 is sure to be a very popular model in 2009. The only area I feel this camera lacks in is shooting performance, which I believe is partly due to the fact that Olympus is still using the very slow xD memory card format. While very similar to the SP-570 UZ, this newer model offers a much better "bang for your buck" with a MSRP of only US$349. “ The Olympus SP-565 UZ feels more like a consolidation and evolution of existing big zoom products rather than a great leap forward, with a launch price that closely matches that of the SP-570UZ when introduced (with the just announced 26x zoom, 12 megapixel SP-590UZ taking over as the new flagship of the Olympus range). Again, you could now purchase an entry level DSLR for not many pennies more, but then you'd have to go some to come up with a lens set-up that would match the broad focal range of this bridge model, and at this price, which kind of justifies its standalone existence. On the plus side too, the Olympus SP-565 UZ handles well and is intuitive to use, letting the user more or less point and shoot. The images it delivers are perfectly acceptable too, exposures even for the most part, while balance accurate and the kind of detail you'd expect from a 10 megapixel contender. Put simply, with a solid build too it disappoints in very few respects, leading to our better than average scores pretty much across the board. Though there's nothing revolutionary about the Olympus SP-565 UZ, there's not anything terrible about this baby DLSR-like camera either; to paraphrase that well-worn adage, it does what it says on the box... ”

“ We're pretty happy with the Olympus Stylus SP-565UZ. This underdog has clawed its way up in the Ultra Zoom pack with a great imaging performance, solid handling and oodles of manual controls and image features. For the advanced budget shooter or the novice looking to learn, the Stylus SP-565UZ is an excellent choice. And that's not because the Stylus SP-565UZ is capable of a 20x optical zoom range and has a zillion Scene modes. This camera is built like a tank, handles like a mini DSLR and is equipped with a welcoming interface that helps you actually learn how to use the camera. From Auto all the way up to full-on Manual mode, Olympus has included many shooting modes that fluctuate the level of manual intensity to suit the needs of the shooter. The Stylus SP-565UZ's image quality is not too shabby either. In fact, it's one of the best performances we've seen from a camera with such a small sensor. So, if you're looking for a zoom machine with tons of features and great image quality, the Olympus Stylus SP-565UZ could be your next weapon of choice... ”

“ Coming from Olympus this was more of a shocker. What they have tried here is to fight head-on with the competition in terms of the technology but seemed to have lost their way when it comes to delivering quality images.

The Olympus SP-565 UZ is priced at about Rs. 21,000 and comes with a 1-year warranty. For that price, you could get much better options from Sony (H50) and Canon (SX10 IS)... ”

“ Olympus's SP-565 UZ incorporates many of the features of the flagship model of the long-zoom range, the SP-570 UZ, in a cheaper, more compact body. It has the same 10-megapixel sensor and 20x optical zoom lens plus the same TruePic III image processor. Yet it weighs 72 grams less and is $100 cheaper than the SP-570 UZ. Its LCD monitor is also slightly smaller but has the same resolution as the flagship model... ”
