“ The elegant little FX150 has a couple of minor shortcomings and it's probably not the best choice for those who like to shoot in natural (read: low/dim) light, but for just about everyone else the FX150 provides nearly the same level of creative capability as many of today's upper-tier point-and-shoot digicams. If that isn't enough, the FX150 is smaller, lighter, easier to use, and looks better than most of its competition as well.

The FX150 should appeal to more serious photographers looking for a pocket digicam, casual photographers who want the latest features and the most megapixels, and hikers/bikers/backpackers/travelers who want lots of photographic options in a small feature rich "take it anywhere" easy to use camera... ”

“ While the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 doesn't offer much for shooters seeking manual controls, it isn't overly complicated to operate and provides a very satisfying point-and-shoot experience with plenty of features for experimentation... ”

“ Our romp with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 was bittersweet, rendering us perplexed and intermittently satisfied throughout the course of our tests. At times, the Lumix DMC-FX150 would snag an image wrought with stunning detail, but most of our battles were waged against blown-out whites and poor low light sensitivity. The camera just couldn't make up its mind, so much that we had to dive into Manual mode to achieve most of our intended results. Beginners will struggle with this camera as a result of its stubborn nature, but the Lumix DMC-FX150 packs in enough Scene modes and extra features to entice the most frightened camera-phobes from here to Timbuktu. We dig the Lumix DMC-FX150's compact design and sexy architecture, but the lack of a spinning Control dial and smaller 2.7" LCD screen knock it back a few rungs compared to the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS and Nikon Coolpix S710. We suggest going with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 if you're a Manual control maverick. All other shooters should investigate Canon and Nikon for a top of the line 14-megapixel compact... ”

“ A well built (with the exception of the plastic buttons at the rear), competitively priced high-resolution model, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 pulls off the trick of being at once a snapshot camera suitable for all the family to use, and one that also won't have the enthusiast frowning with derision after five minutes. We'd even go so far as to suggest this has to be one of the best options for the more discerning photographer who doesn't want to kart around a DSLR or a more compact bridge camera on nights out or the occasional day trip. Boasting resolution a-plenty, few compromises need to be made in order to achieve great looking images with the Panasonic FX150. OK, its ISO performance may be nothing to write home about, white balance can be variable and in low light it's literally looking shaky too. But for a retailer's asking price of £299 – with web deals available for a good £100 cheaper at the time of writing – it adds up to very fair value. If you don't want, or indeed need 100% perfection, but do require reliable performance under the typical conditions for image taking – blue skies, holidays – then the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 should be high on your wish list... ”

“ Now what is the surplus value of the high resolution on a compact camera such as the Panasonic LUMIX FX150? Not a lot, in fact, even unnecessary for 99% of the pictures that you will make with this type of camera, and the high resolution will certainly not add to the image quality. Yet, 14 Megapixels, that doesn't sound bad, and perhaps it will satisfy the user to have more pixels in his pocket than the show-off with the large and heavy digital SLR camera hanging from his neck. I must admit that it is quite an odd procedure; the DSLR camera aiming for quality is not easily abused by marketing, on the contrary, it is profiled as a high quality product. Take the new Panasonic LUMIX G1 for example, a system camera of the house, that offers a standard resolution of 12 Megapixels. Place the FX150 next to it, and it might be a real problem for the seller to explain the resolution-tale... ”

“ And the megapixel race continues with Panasonic making an entry into the group of 14.7 megapixel compact cameras with the Lumix FX150. The Lumix FX150 packs a lot of fancy and nifty features into its no-nonsense, compact design. The ‘typically Lumix’ FX150 keeps a very low-profile, especially in black, as it looks “like just another camera”; you wouldn’t expect such a small camera to be loaded with megapixels. You’d also have a hard time distinguishing this super high resolution Lumix from its lower end 7 to 10 megapixel siblings if you’re not one of those camera junkies like me. Under the hood, the Lumix FX150 packs a high resolution sensor, excellent battery life (which is best in its class, by the way) and a full manual exposure mode.

The camera feels solid except the battery/card compartment door which doesn’t feel too assuring. On the back is a 2.7 inch display which is sharp and very usable, along with a few other buttons. However, the Lumix FX150 seems to be lacking a command dial of any sort (the competition from Canon and Nikon have rear command dials while Samsung’s model has a touchscreen), which means tweaking exposure in manual mode would require a few extra button presses and you can’t glide easily through the camera’s 6 pages of menus.

The Panasonic Lumix FX150 has a full manual exposure mode where you get to control shutter speed and aperture. The thing I like here is the slowest shutter speed goes up to 60 seconds which is the closest thing you can get to bulb mode on a pocket camera. The FX150 also includes the ability to change four image parameters which are sharpness, contrast, saturation and noise reduction as well as a very advanced (digital SLR-like) way of tweaking white balance, if you like. In addition to that, there’s exposure bracketing and color effect bracketing available... ”

“ The Lumix FX150 provides a neat balance between point’n’shooter and enthusiast snapper although it sometimes fails to fulfil the latter in some areas. Build is superb and handling is okay despite the blocky design. The good metering and WB control aid image capture at lower ISOs and detail is superb so while this is not without it flaws, the FX150 is certainly a camera worthy of closer inspection... ”

“ If you are looking for a lot of megapixels then the DMC FX150 certainly has them. Panasonic have also added a larger sensor than standard digital compacts have. In theory this should benefit picture quality.

The wide angle lens helps you when photographing subjects such as landscapes, groups of people, buildings and interiors. There is also a simple manual exposure mode giving you some control over shutter speeds and aperture sizes. HD movies are also available... ”

“ The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX150 was a blast to use. Some might question the quality of its 14-megapixel images, however I feel this camera can create awesome images that will make beautiful large prints. Thanks to the MAX ISO feature, you can be sure that image noise is not an issue, and thankfully the FX150's effective Mega O.I.S. system will also help fight image blur and camera shake in your photos. With robust performance, HD movie capabilities, nice overall construction, and plenty of exposure options, we have no problem recommending this camera to anyone who is in the market for a "High-end" ultra-compact digicam. With a street price of $300 or less, the Lumix DMC-FX150 offers a great value, and is sure to be a very popular model this coming Holiday season... ”

“ This is a good all round camera. Looking at the basic spec you may consider the lens to lack zoom capacity, but even this can be turned around if you shoot at lower resolutions. With 14.7 megapixels available you certainly have plenty of scope to do so. Picture quality is good and there are some useful extra features you will struggle to find elsewhere. ... ”
