“ All things considered, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a solid ultracompact camera. The 5x 28mm wide-angle lens doesn't match that of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5's 10X zoom, but it's faster, and though its image quality isn't nearly as good as the Canon SD880 IS, which offers a 4x 28mm wide-angle lens, the W150 is slightly less expensive. If your photo viewing plans only include online sharing and small prints, the W150's photo quality should suffice. However, if that's your plan, the DSC-W120 may ultimately be a better bargain... ”

“ I have mixed feelings about the Sony Cybershot DSC-W150. While it was far from love at first use, I find I’m a little sad to have to send my review copy back. I really like how easily the W150 fits into my purse and the excellent image quality it produces.

The disorganized user interface was a real stumbling block for me, although I eventually got used to it. Limited exposure options are another deterrent - I like being able to adjust shutter, aperture and ISO settings. I’d also like to have more scene exposure modes. But it is what it is - a point-and-shoot digital camera. The majority of the W150’s target market - beginner and intermediate photographers - will not miss having real manual exposure controls.

Image quality is really the Sony Cybershot W150’s selling point. It’s quite good, particularly in a camera this small. I’m especially impressed by the rich, vivid colors. The 8.1 megapixels of resolution, 5x Carl Zeiss zoom lens and attractive, comfortable build are also high points.

While in-camera editing and slideshows don’t really interest me, they are strong features in this camera and will make the right person very happy.... ”

“ Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a fairly decent compact cameras with a few niggling issues. Aside from some purple fringing it captures good shots. The interface and shot taking can be extremely slow at times, which is frustrating.... ”

“ The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a well rounded ultra-compact digicam. With loads of useful exposure modes and in-camera editing options, the W150 can be used and enjoyed by everyone, whether at home or the office. This model has the ability to capture very nice images with little fuss, and it can take them quickly too, with above average shooting performance. That said, I feel the DSC-W150 is an appealing model for 2008, and with four colors choices (Red, Gold, Black, Silver) and a street price of $249 or less, I have no problem giving it a high recommendation for anyone who is in search of a camera in this category. ... ”

“ The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a competent little camera that offers a pleasing combination of zoom power, image stabilization, performance, and point-and-shoot features. Being that it's completely devoid of manual controls, it's not a great choice for those who take long exposures, or shoot under unusual lighting conditions. For everyone else, though, the Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is worth checking out.

The DSC-W150 is a compact (but not super-tiny) camera made almost entirely of metal. It's well put together, and pretty stylish, too. Controls are small, but generally well-placed, though your thumb will rest on the mode dial. The only weak spot is the usual one: the door over the battery/memory card compartment. Speaking of which, you won't be able to get at the memory card while the camera is on a tripod. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the W150 comes in multiple colors, and you have a choice of silver, black, red, and gold. The DSC-W150 features a 5X optical zoom lens, with a really nice range of 30 - 150 mm. The lens is on the slow side, so it's not the best for shooting in low light conditions. Like most of Sony's cameras these days, the W150 features their Super SteadyShot image stabilization system, and it works as advertised. On the back of the camera you'll find a 2.7" LCD and a tiny optical viewfinder (but at least there is one). The LCD is sharp, and offers good outdoor and low light visibility... ”
