Canon PowerShot A710 IS

This camera is equipped with a 6x optical zoom lens with shift-method image stabilizer and a focal length of 5.8–34.8 mm (35 mm film equivalent 35–210 mm), f/2.8–f/4.8, which is ideal for a wide range of photography including snapshots and scenic shots.

FEATURES

LCD Monitor

  The LCD monitor can be used to check an image during shooting, to play back recorded images or to adjust menu settings.

AF Frame

• AiAF
  The camera automatically selects between 9 AF frames to focus on according to the shooting conditions.
• Center
  The camera focuses using the center AF frame. This is convenient for making sure the focus is exactly where you want it.
• FlexiZone (Manual setting)
  You can move the AF frame manually to the desired position. This is convenient for focusing accurately on your chosen subject to obtain the composition you desire.

Exposure Compensation

The settings can be adjusted in 1/3 stops in the range -2 to +2. Adjust the exposure compensation to a positive value to avoid making the subject too dark when it is backlit or shot against a bright background. Adjust the exposure compensation to a negative value to avoid making the subject too bright in night shots or when shot against a dark background.

Metering Methods

• Evaluative
  Appropriate for standard shooting conditions, including backlit scenes. The camera divides images into several zones for metering. It evaluates complex lighting conditions, such as the position of the subject, the brightness, the direct light, and the backlighting, and adjusts the settings to the correct exposure for the main subject.
• Center Weighted Average
  Averages the light metered from the entire frame, but gives greater weight to the subject matter at the center.
• Spot
  Meters the area within the spot AE point frame. The frame can be selected from Center and AF Point.

ISO Speed

Shoot with Auto, High ISO Auto, ISO 80, ISO 100, ISO 200, ISO 400, and ISO 800 equivalent. Raise the ISO speed to use a fast shutter speed when you wish to reduce the effects of camera shake or avoid blurry subjects, or to turn the flash off when shooting in a dark area.

White Balance

Normally, the Auto white balance setting selects an optimal white balance. When the Auto setting cannot produce natural looking colors, change the white balance using a setting appropriate for the light source.

White Balance Settings

• Auto, Day Light, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent H
• Underwater
  Appropriate for shooting images underwater with the Waterproof Case WP-DC8 (sold separately). This mode yields image data in the optimal white balance to record images with natural hues by reducing the bluish tone.
• Custom
  You can set a custom white balance to obtain the optimal setting for the shooting conditions by having the camera evaluate an object, such as a piece of white paper or cloth.

Recording Media

This camera uses an SD memory card, SDHC memory card or MultiMediaCard as the recording media. A 16 MB MultiMediaCard is included in the package.

Playback Modes

Start playback with the image that was last displayed during the last playback session (Resume Playback). However, this image is reset when new images have been shot, when a memorycard has been edited on a computer or when another memorycard has been inserted, in which case playback starts with the image shot last.
