All in a package

Hi all

As I looked at the stats of the 500D, I couldn't help but go, WOW! We're talking about a 15MP dSLR, 12800 ISO with a VGA screen and movie recording abilities, at an entry level price!

When I bought my 40D barely 1.5 years ago, none of these features were even on people's minds! I was still in awe of the 16MP of the 1DsII and the resolution it provided, couldn't be happier with a 3" 'normal' LCD, and happily carried a compact camera for videos, accepting that DSLRs were DSLRs and that video recording just wasn't a technological possibility. 3200ISO was still pretty awesome as well! In fact, the XXXD series of cameras were all still stuck in the 1600ISO range!

But now we have all this in a package that costs less than my 40D did, and complaints are still coming! Yes there could be improvements, but this is an ENTRY LEVEL SLR! There has been SO much happening in the last 1 year it's mindboggling - the value of these cameras have seriously gone through the roof! And I'm finding it bloody amazing!!

Its good but not as good as it should be

I find the 500d to be very similar to my previous camera the 350d, it easily overexposes in high contrast situations when you just want to point and shoot, im sure with a bit of manual adjustment this can be overcome.

Image quality apart from being a bigger file doesn't appear to be much different either.

Im not sure if it's the Kit lenses or the camera but I have taken several photos with a tripod and remote cable using various TV and AV and found that if I take a section or crop? of the photo the image doesn't look all that sharp.

I will perservere with this camera and im sure I will have alot of fun with it, im just not sure If I will stick with Canon for my next purchace.

Maybe I will have to step up to a EOS5d to get what im after ;)
