Going from a Mark IIn it is hard to image that this camera could be as much of an improvement as it is, but after having it a week, I can only say that it is incredible. Every aspect of the camera is improved and in some areas vastly.

I bought this camera with some concerns regarding the autofocus issues that have been reported. I have only shot about 600 images (mostly raw and all using servo focusing) and have not seen any problems at all. This includes shooting with a 70-200 F2.8L and a 600 F4L in bright outdoor light and temperatures in the low 80s. Focus tracking is dead on and images are sharper than what I got with my Mark 2. The other love fest reports you have seen about the MarkIII are dead on. One item that really stands out is battery life. The new lithion battery is a big improvement, and its lighter weight is noticeable. This camera rocks!

Problems

A few quirky things but nothing major. First off, Canon warns that the Mark III may have autofocus issues with a 70-200 F2.8L/1.4 teleconverter combo unless the central focus spot is used. This is a rather big deal to me, since I use this set up frequently. I'd like to see the toggle switch on the back of the Mark III support autofocus point selection, as is offered by the 5D. A few of the menu controls, including simple stuff like creating files is not as straight forward as it could be. The bottom line; read the manual to get the most out of this machine.

I love this camera. Coming from a 5d it's just in a different league. The camera is more intuitive to use and is so quick to respond. Image quality is about the same as the 5d, but of course much quicker. I was worried the loss of pixels would be a problem but I’m very pleased with the results. Battery life is amazing and view finder is even better than on the 5d.

Problems

Trouble with getting a new camera is that it shows up weaknesses in you lens collection. I was happy with images from the 100-400mm on the 5d but they seem to lack punch on this body. I have now replaced it with a Canon 300mm f/2.8. wow…

i have had the 1D MKIII for three months now and so far, not AF errors or issues... I did come across this post from Rob Galbraith thtat does address the AF issues and i wanted to pass it along as this seems to be the latest. he was the first reviewer i read that brought the AF issues to light. It looks like Canon may have identified the problem and the solution...

Quite simply the best camera I have ever used in all catergories.I have owned the Nikon d2x, d100,d2h. d200 and now have the Canon 5d and mark2n and of couse the mark3 Problems After using the mark2 n I had to rethink the auto focus buttons as I kept pushing the wrong buttons.

I have used the Mark 3 since June 2007. It is the fastest focusing camera that I know of. I used 20D and 5D. Mark 3 works extrememly well. I will not go back to the other models. Once you have a Mark 3 in your hands, no other camera feels like or works like it that I know of. I take over 100,000 files a year and this camera captures the action and the stills above and beyond. 3200 ISO can print 8 x 10 and higher if need be. The colour is outstanding compared to 12 bit colour. I use the viewfinder for reading my settings of the camera all the time as I change the ISO lots , the shutter speed and the f-stops.

Problems

The camera experienced focusing, error 99 and other minor details. Canon replaced the camera without question. The new camera (blue dot) works like a charm. So much that I bought a second Mark 111.

You won\'t be disappointed with this great camera. I just have problems hooking up the wireless transmitter to my laptop. Can anyone help???

Moved from the 5D to the EOS 1D MK 3. I never buy any newly designed hardware or software. Glad to let others field test. My copy has not had any problems. Works perfect. The 5D is nice, but this is so much better. Faster, weather proof, intuitive controls. 2000 shots testing it out. No problems.

Value, well with Canon's much publicized problems, the $3600.00 price is quite reasonable for the camera you get. Dell 20% coupon deal, worth the wait. Glad I am not sitting and waiting for the 5D MK 2 or whatever. I just love that bright screen for reviewing in the field.
