I tried the SD890IS (actually, two of them) and was very disappointed with th eimage quality.
On a whim I tried the SD790IS, and the image quality (straight out of the camera with no post processing) is SIGNIFICANTLY better. The camera also has a much more "solid", "high quality" feel to it.
I do not miss the optical viewfinder at all, but I do miss the 5x optical zoom though.
Highly recommended.

Truly amazed
Took some sample shots and was truly amazed by its IQ straight out of the box. Very good definition, sharpness, colour and contrast, noise very well controlled and nearly no smearing and artefacts.
The jpg IQ of this cam outclasses the jpg IQ of the G9. Although the G9 is more flexible with it's IQ due to the use of raw.(I've owned the G9 for 2 weeks and returned it because i was unhappy with the jpg results).
cons:
Although the flash output can be adjusted, it isn't really manually adjustable, and no manual AF-frame selection, but these aren't major issues for me, this is a P&S cam and should be judged for it's purpose.
Highly recommended!
