F5.7 lens on SX1 and SX10 !!

SO bad that it deserved a thread of its own !! - remember when these small UZ cams like the FZ20 were F2.8 all the way through and even the really small ones like the S3-IS and FZ7 were F3.3, F3.5 or F3.7 ? ..

F5.7 is awful for 20X zoom, especially with a tiny sensor loaded with noise and NR - I know that the Ixus and Sxx cams always had terminally slow lenses but the Ixus range are designer bling cams and almost everyone treated the S70 like a kind of prehistoric (but better & improved) GRD fixed 28mm cam which was only zoomed in absolute desperation ...

A tiny UZ\'er needs a decent fast aperture at the long end to make it work in anything but solar flare conditions - F5.7 doesn\'t cut it Canon, shame because you can almost guarantee that the Image quality and handling will beat the rest by quite a margin - they should have left the flakey Micro USM motor out though ..

I have had the SX10 IS for about a month now and am very please with its performance. The camera replaces my SX100 IS which was a great camera also. I've had smaller point-and-shoot cameras over the years, so this is my first "heavy weight." It has taken me a little time to get used to the size and weight, but the performance, quality, and features is worth it.

I still have not had time to explore all the features of the camera. I know the basics.

I have noticed a slight graininess in some low light photos, but then again my expectations for this camera are quite high. I also have been attempting more more challenging pictures with this camera, and have been very happy with the result. I am very pleased with the sharpness and clarity of each photos. Of the hundreds I have taken in the past month, I don't think I have had one bad one, or one that could not be used.

I purchased a lens cap keeper or tether for a couple of bucks, because I am afraid of losing the lens cap. Even though I am familiar with canon cameras, it still took me a little time to learn how to access things, and am still learning.
The movie mode is excellent, and the sound indeed CD quality in stereo. I have used the camera just to make a sound recording, processed through my computer. I was somewhat familiar with the S5, and feel that while in many ways similiar to the SX10 IS, the build and construction of the SX10 IS is far superior.

After seeing this camera in operation and its pictures, I believe that I have found the camera that gives the quality I am looking for, without having to purchase or lug around a SLR and its lenses. I highly recommend this camera.

Just got an SX10 (3 pics large)

I won this camera in a sales contest. It seems like it will be a fun camera to have. These are from my first batch of photos with this cam. CC is, of course, welcome.
