7x optical inner zoom

A real highlight of the EXILIM Hi-Zoom EX-V8 is the 7x optical inner zoom. The "invisible" lens no longer zooms out of the camera, but is instead completely integrated in the elegant and compact housing. This innovation allows you to take brilliant photos and makes the EXILIM EX-V8 into one of the world's flattest digital cameras with a 7x optical inner zoom.

8.1 Megapixel CCD

In its compact and elegant designer housing, the EXILIM EX-V8 contains a powerful 8.1 Megapixel CCD chip. With 8.1 Megapixel resolution, you don't just get pictures of excellent quality and colour brilliance - you can also trim photos to the size you wish, enlarge them, and print them out in the format of your choice. This way, the best moments and the smallest details can be captured for eternity on XXL posters, as well as in photos.

Innovative H.264 movies

Anything is possible. You just have to want it. With the EX-V8 , you can turn your brilliant ideas into digital reality – and in extremely high quality too, as the movies* are recorded in the innovative H.264 encoding. The H.264 enables you to record up to 1.5x longer high resolution films with sound than in the conventional MPEG4** format, with the same memory space and in the same picture quality. Extremely practical: movie clips are optimised automatically for YouTube™ with the new YouTube™ Capture Mode.

Image Stabilisation system

With the new, Mechanical CCD Shift technology, in conjunction with the Motion Analysis system and the Anti Shake DSP*, the risk of shaky photos is reduced to a minimum.

The CCD Shift system mechanically compensates for camera movements via a mobile image sensor. The Motion Analysis technology automatically analyses the speed and direction of a moving subject – ISO sensitivity and exposure time are then optimally adjusted as appropriate. The Anti Shake DSP* is the solution for electronically resolving the problem of picture blurriness caused by shaking hands or by the movement of the picture subject. And with the Film Stabilisation function*, there is a reduced risk of filming shaky scenes due to a wobbly camera grip.

YouTube™ Capture Mode

It has never been easier to upload your own movies to YouTube™: with the EX-V8 , you can film your most memorable moments directly in H.264 format optimised for YouTube™, in optimal movie size and outstanding quality*! And the exclusive software makes uploading your movies to YouTube™ child's play.

Wide Movie Shooting

The Wide Movie Shooting function also allows you to shoot films in the 16:9 Wide Screen format with 848 x 480 pixels. This way you can watch your movies in full Wide Screen format on a plasma or LCD television, for example.

Short Movie

Say good-bye to long drawn-out scenes: in Short Movie mode, you can automatically film for up to 8 seconds as soon as you press the shutter release. When you combine several of these short movies together, you can create an interesting, enjoyable impression of the most beautiful places and events.

Were you too late pressing the shutter release? No problem because you can combine this mode with Past Movie if necessary - and even seconds which you have missed are automatically saved when you start your recording.

If you want, the camera can create a MOTION PRINT for every short movie.

Bright 6.4 cm (2.5-inch) TFT colour display

The EXILIM EX-V8 is equipped with a bright 6.4 cm (2.5-inch) TFT colour display. It features 230.400 pixels and can thus allow a particularly brilliant display of your pictures. With approx. 1000 cd/m²* the display also features above average brightness, allowing the user to clearly view every subject, no matter how bright the ambient light. And to ensure that you have the best view in any situation, you can adjust the luminosity intensity as you wish to suit the individual lighting conditions. There are five default settings available for this purpose: 0/+1/+2/AUTO 1/AUTO 2

EXILIM Engine 2.0

Works quickly and provides great recording quality: the new EXILIM Engine 2.0. The extremely powerful image processor combines multiple components in a compact space, offering sufficient capacity for such features as the Auto Tracking AF function, hue adjustment to optimise dark areas, targeted noise elimination in critical colour areas and quick image processing.

And the new EXILIM Engine 2.0 also ensures quick reaction times and long battery operating times - and all of this naturally with very low energy consumption.

Advanced Auto Tracking AF function

Dogs running, kids jumping around, moving cars - there are countless examples of moving subjects, which can try the patience of even professional photographers. Thanks to the Auto Tracking AF function with motion analysis, you can relax and concentrate on the overall subject. The half-pressed release button sets the focus for saving, and the focus frame automatically follows the moving subject as long as the release button remains half-pressed - as soon as it is time to take the photo, simply "release"!

Face Detection function

Whether you're on holiday, at a party or spending time with your family - people are particularly popular subjects for a photo. It's always a pity when faces turn out blurred on a picture. The Face Detection function now offers the perfect solution, recognizing the individual faces or even entire groups, and automatically applying the best possible setting.

Face recognition function

The face recognition function recognizes faces in the picture. Extremely clever: the face recognition function can save up to 6 faces via a biometric mask. If several faces appear on a photo when taking a picture, the face recognition function focuses primarily on faces which have previously been saved as priorities in the family register. This enables you to set "preferences" for certain people when taking a photograph at family celebrations.

9-Point Multi AF function

If you take photos using the multi-focus, the camera measures the distance from the motif with the 9-Point Multi AF function at nine different points and sets the right focusing range. In addition, all the measured areas are displayed simultaneously which were the object of the focussing procedure. This means that every picture is extremely crisply focused.

RGB histogram

The RGB histogram displays the fractions of red, green and blue. So you have an overview of the colour components in your picture and can correct if required, by adjusting the diaphragm or using colour filters. The RGB-histogram is in addition to the black-and-white histogram, with which you can control the light/dark contrast of a motif.
