Fujifilm IS Pro

Fujifilm's IS and UVIR series of cameras have set standards for quality straight from the factory that are currently unmatched by third party camera modifications.

The Fujifilm IS Pro is the next generation of UVIR compatible DSLR and is built on the same platform as the FinePix S5 Pro digital SLR system. And like the S5 Pro is compatible with Nikon F mount lenses and Nikon iTTL flash systems.

Fujifilm IS Pro

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FEATURES

Real Photo Processor Pro Technology

The IS Pro, utilizes Fujifilm's Super CCD Pro and Real Photo Processor Pro technology to see light from the ultraviolet (UV), visible and near infrared (IR) portion of the spectrum (approx. 380nm – 1000nm). Fujifilm's Real Photo Processor technology has significantly brought alternative wavelength photography to a new level of sophistication and usefulness. The IS Pro has an extremely low noise signature and high 3200 ISO sensitivity. Low noise and high ISO's are critical to alternative wavelength low light photography methods that can significantly tax any digital cameras output with respect to clarity and sharpness.

Dark opaque filters that cover the lens often render the viewfinder useless. So the IS Pro offers specialized features useful for investigative photography, such as a special quick activate one touch Live Image Preview (Black and White) mode that can be activated by pressing the "Display/Back" button for 3 seconds. This makes fast access to Live Preview mode much easier when used on forensic copy stand tables in dark room environments. Its Mirror Lock-Up feature and shutter delay features also aid in reducing image blur during long exposures. It also has a specially formulated protective CCD glass filter was designed to help protect the Super CCD Pro from general maintenance damage while maximizing its UV & IR gathering potential.

Live Image CCD Preview

Fujifilm pioneered Live Image Preview. The IS Pro provides a 30 second live image CCD preview to the cameras LCD monitor directly from the imaging sensor in color or black and white. To further improve the process, the live image preview can be digitally magnified and brightness adjusted to improve focusing accuracy or to compensate for light intensity. The video image can also be viewed on an NTSC / PAL monitor or on the PC over the cameras USB 2.0 connection directly form Fujifilm's optional HyperUtility HS-V3 software.

Face Detection Technology

The camera can be used for conventional daylight photography by adding an optional UVIR cut filter to the lens. And with Fujifilm's Post Capture Face Detection . After capture faces are automatically zoomed in during playback to confirm focus and exposure of up to 10 faces per image. Color quality is dependant on the brand of UVIR cut filter used.

TIFF Format

Investigative photographers often require images produced in TIFF directly from the camera. Since most DSLR cameras today now only offer RAW as an option, the IS Pro offers an optional firmware upgrade due out later this Autumn that will support camera TIFF file formats in three resolutions. ( RAW mode is not available during TIFF mode capture.)

Bar Code and Magnetic Stripe Card Reading

The IS Pro can be connected to an optional serial port bar code reader or serial port magnetic stripe card reader using the optional Nikon MC-35 GPS/Serial adapter. Alpha-numeric data read by the devices is stored in the IS Pro's image file as part of the EXIF header in JPEG, TIFF, and RAW file formats. This data can later be recalled so that images are synched to databases using special software programs. Bar codes of drivers licenses, employee IDs, automotive VIN tags, credit cards, evidence tags, employee ID's, or any object with a bar code can be recorded directly to the camera.

HS-V3 Tethered Shooting and RAW Conversion Software

Fujifilm's optional Hyper Utility Software HS-V3 version 1.1 enables tethered shooting direct to a MAC or PC, with control from the camera or computer via a USB 2.0 connection. This option significantly speeds image capture and quality verification. Its split screen mode allows photographers to fine tune the focus through a series of quick succession shots. This feature is highly useful during very low light UV photography where Live Image Preview becomes difficult. In addition, Live Image Preview from the computer is possible via its USB connection. Using the PC Capture mode can reduce or limit the photographer's exposure to harmful UV light by placing distance between the photographer and the object being photographed. Advanced RAW file conversion to JPEG, TIFF 8 bit, and TIFF 16 bit is also provided by the HS-V3 software.

Available System Kits

The IS Pro is available through Fujifilm's exclusive list of Law Enforcement and Scientific dealers and is available in various system kits that may include online training workshops, HyperUtility HS-V3 software, lenses, camera body armor, extra long USB cables, specialized UV and IR filters. Please see dealers for details or click here to see options offered from Fujifilm.

Summary

  • 12.3 MegaPixels (S-6.17MP, R-6.17MP)
  • Five Film Simulation Modes for daylight photography
  • Real Photo Processor Pro unleashes the full potential of Super CCD SR Pro Technology and limits noise interference even at high ISO settings.
  • Facial Detection Technology ( Post capture Face Zoom allows the photographer to easily and quickly zoom in and confirm facial detail such as focus and exposure on the LCD monitor. )
  • Commercial grade durable metal alloy frame with password protected feature lockouts. Extra rubber body armor available in some kit options.
  • Nikon F-mount compatibility for full functionality with all Nikkor AF-D/G and the latest AF-S optics. ( Important Notes on Lenses: Zeiss Makro-Planar T 2/50 ZF non-CPU with IR focus adjust markings, and Tamron Macro SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro Lens 1:1 are considered excellent IR investigative lenses, however Fujifilm recommends using quartz based lens systems for UV photography. In all cases manual focusing may be necessary to achieve an acceptable focus. Some lens and filter combinations can cause undesired halo effects caused by internal lens elements requiring larger lens hoods or changing position vs. the subject. )
  • Dual cycle noise reduction algorithms for pristine picture at 3200 ISO (ISO range from 100 – 3200) it's recommended to stay above ISO 200 when photographing in IR or UV.)
  • More Dynapic Range (DR) settings from 100% to 400% (depending on the wavelength being photographed, the DR settings may not contribute significantly to image quality)
  • Raw + Jpeg simultaneous sooting option (TIFF available via firmware upgrade only starting this Autumn.)
  • Nikon based high precision i-TTL flash control (iTTL may not function fully under heavy IR lens filtration. Many flash units do not emit significant amounts of UV light.)
  • Exclusive Li-Ion recargeable battery
  • Compact Flash (CF) Card and Microdrive compatible
