Great all around camera... Still preforms like the F30/31 via low light shots, well at least at 800 ISO or less. The only really way to test is to drop the Megapixels down on the shots and compare. The layout on this camera is way better and the Auto setting is much improved. So far I am very impressed with this camera, much better than my Canon 800 IS or 870 IS that I had to return because of spotting issues on 40% of my shots indoors.

Pros:

-Picture still great in Low light situations with ISO set below 800
-Improved Auto feature
-Improved menu system that is easy to use
-Outside shots are fantastic
-Build Quality much improved
-2 year true extended warr only for an extra 20 bucks..

Con\\\'s:

-Placement of the Flash, put it too close to \\\"take picture button\\\" ;) And if you have
big hands you will cover the flash unless your careful.

F100fd is the best p&s camera

I wanted a very good small point and shoot camera because some times it’s really hard to take with me my Dslr and the lenses.

I read many reviews about a lot of p&s cameras and I had the opportunity to actually test the Canon 650 IS, the Canon G9 and the Fuji F100FD.

I bought Fuji F100fd for the following reasons: In comparison with the other mentioned cameras the Fuji gives you the opportunity to have great pictures under all light conditions (especially under low light) which is the most useful feature(please it's time to stop comparing it with f31 fd. It was a really good camera, but now it's history).

The Iso 800 is really good and the Iso 1600 can be used for small pictures. This camera has a lot automatic programs that are working really well (something really rear to find) and it’s ideal to have it all the time with you and shoot where the others just can’t.

The face detection feature is working extremely well. You can’t manual control aperture and shutter, but I think that for a p&s camera is not a huge problem.

As an experienced photographer I’m used to have full manual control of my camera. For that reason I own the Canon 20D and many Slr cameras. Most of the people, just don’t know how to manual control aperture and shutter, so in most of the cases are having really bad pictures or use the automatic programs.

I believe that most important is to have great pictures by any means (even with automatic programs) than having a camera with a lot of futures which you can’t or you don’t know how to use them in the most efficient way. Also i don't believe that when we are for example on a trip, or on a party (when we really need a p&s camera) we have the time to start playing with shutter and aperture. In those cases automatic programs are saving the day.

If you want a full manual controlled camera, just buy a Dslr. You can also buy a Canon G9 and pay as much as costs a modern dslr. Of course you’ll get pictures which simply can't be compared to dslr's even when you use a low cost lens. The build quality is really good (much better than the Canon 650 IS which is also made in China), the camera is fast and the flash is working well. I read that the flash is in a place that you can easily cover it with your finger. This is absolutely false. The only way to cover the flash is when you have no idea how to hold a camera. And believe me. I have really big hand and fingers.

Fuji has bigger sensor than the Canon, don’t have a Raw mode and a hot shoe (who needs them on a p&s camera??), but in my opinion, and as a conclusion, is taking much better pictures (especially under low light). I believe that it’s the best p&s camera you can actually buy today and in a very competitive price (I’m afraid that my 20D will be covered of dusts).

I purchased this camera after reading some positive reviews and I must say that F100fd is an half swindle.

Quality construction (made in China) and appearance (strange butterfly form) are poor; menu system is reasonless; manual mode is a bluff, but, above all, image quality in dim light was a scorching delusion.

At ISO 100 and 200 image quality is very good, but at ISO 400 and above it is as a watercolor. 12 m.pixels are too much also for Fuji!

F100fd is my 13th camera

This is my 13th digicam. They get better and better.

It's looks and feels high quality in black with some chrome/stainless.

In comparison with my Canon 850IS, it feels a little slower, which is not surprising with 12Meg as opposed to 7 Megapixels to process. It's slightly bigger than the Canon.

It came with the version 1.02 software and no pink banding has been evident. Lovely prints at A4 and bigger. Usable at up to 1600 ISO but very acceptable at 800. Everything works well including the IS and the auto dynamic range feature. One very useful feature is the abilty to disable flash, sounds and autofocus assist LED with just one touch; very handy for covert or "stolen" shots.

The flash is small and perfectly positioned. You'd have to try hard to find you covered it with a finger.

The tele end of the focal length range is long enough. Any longer and it would be too long, hand-held without an optical viewfinder to allow the camera to be held steady against the face. Possibly the best point-and-shoot, pocket camera so far for use in available light.

F100fd incl Monochrome

A few new shots here, including a couple that I've run through DxO FilmPack for controllable mono ... may well have to buy this, as it's working so well !
