Equipped with an incredible 26x optical zoom NIKKOR lens, this camera supports shooting at a broad range of focal lengths with 35mm format equivalent angles of view of 26mm up to 678mm. In addition, macro shooting as close as 1 cm (0.4 in.) to the lens is also possible. When digital zoom is added to the maximum optical zoom ratio, shooting at a 35mm format equivalent angle of view of 2712mm is supported.

CMOS sensor with backside illumination structure:
The camera is equipped with a CMOS sensor with backside illumination structure that increases the amount of light that each pixel receives. This enables capture of images exhibiting less noise at the high sensitivities required for night landscapes and pictures taken indoors under dim lighting.
Backlit Scene HDR (high dynamic range) mode:
A new Backlit Scene HDR scene mode has been added to enable capture of intended photographs. When this mode is selected, the camera combines multiple images captured with continuous shooting to create an image with a broader dynamic range for beautiful photos with less loss of detail in highlights and shadows, even when the subject is backlit.
Advanced Night Landscape mode:
When Night Landscape scene mode is selected, the camera automatically captures several images and then combines the images to create a single optimized photo. This allows for the capture of beautiful night landscapes that exhibit less blur and noise.

High-speed continuous shooting functions that enable continuous shooting of images at the maximum size (10 MP) at 10 fps and sport continuous mode, which allows for continuous shooting at up to approximately 120 fps

High-speed continuous shooting of images at the maximum 10-MP size (3648 x 2736) at 10 fps and sport continuous mode, which allows for continuous shooting at up to approximately 120 fps*, are possible. Sport continuous mode improves the chances of capturing the perfect picture with a Pre-Shooting Cache function that records up to five shots just before the shutter is released.

Full HD movie recording and playback functions

The COOLPIX P100 is equipped with a function for recording full HD movies with stereo sound(1080p:1920 x 1080). Movie recording can be initiated by simply pressing the movie-record button on the back of the camera. The HS movie function provides the added benefit of recording movies that can be played back in slow motion or fast motion. Movies recorded with the camera can be enjoyed in their original high-definition quality by connecting the camera to the HDMI port on a high-definition TV.

The camera is equipped with a vari-angle monitor that improves operation and increases flexibility with shooting from conventionally difficult angles. The monitor can be tilted 82 degrees downward and 90 degrees upward for simpler shooting from a variety of angles.

5 features that effectively prevent or reduce blur caused by camera shake and subject movement*

The COOLPIX P100 supports high sensitivities up to ISO 3200 and offers an image-sensor shift vibration reduction function, motion detection, Nikon's own BSS (best shot selector) function, and also offers a new vibration reduction that combines the image-sensor shift system with electronic vibration reduction. The secure grip also helps to reduce camera shake.
