Nikon Coolpix S8000

" The COOLPIX S8000 offers an effective pixel count of 14.2-million pixels and is equipped with a 10x optical zoom NIKKOR lens that covers a broad range of focal lengths, beginning at the wide-angle 30mm (35mm format equivalent). The refined design makes it the thinnest camera in its class1 with a depth of approximately 27.3 mm. The camera is also equipped with a creative slider function for adjusting the brightness, vividness and hue of pictures to be taken to suit individual preferences, as well as a 3-in., 921k-dot, wide viewing angle clear color panel TFT LCD monitor for crisp, vivid display. This stylish, high-power zoom camera will allow users to capture the moment and make the most of their individual creativity."

High-power zoom lens built into the thinnest body in its class

Four advanced image stabilization features for clear, beautiful, blur-free photos of any scene, from wide-angle to telephoto

  • Lens-shift vibration reduction (VR) function:
Offers compensation equivalent to an increase in shutter speed of roughly three stops
  • Less noise in images captured at high sensitivities:
The combination of a new image processing engine that supports high sensitivities and advanced noise reduction processing technology enables superior image quality in images captured at ISO 1600 with automatic ISO sensitivity adjustment and ISO 3200 with manual ISO sensitivity specification
  • Motion detection:
The camera detects camera shake and subject movement with shooting, and automatically compensates by controlling shutter speed and ISO sensitivity
  • New flash control
    -High-sensitivity sync:
With shooting under dim lighting, the camera increases ISO sensitivity rather than opting for slower shutter speeds to allow the image sensor to acquire background lighting for bright, natural photos
    -Wide-area backlighting identification algorithm:
Wide-area automatic backlighting compensation enables beautiful photos of difficult backlit scenes

Superior high-speed response that enables users to preserve those once-in-a-lifetime expressions.

Fast power-up and short shooting time lag enable the high-speed response for which Nikon compact digital cameras are known

Smart portrait mode for consistently beautiful portraits

A series of advanced functions, beginning with the skin softening function that smoothes facial skin tones and continuing with face-priority AF, the smile timer, the blink proof function, the blink warning, and red-eye reduction function, ensure consistently great portraits.

Subject tracking automatically tracks subjects to maintain focus

This function automatically recognizes human faces and then initiates subject tracking to follow the movement of the recognized subject. When a face is not automatically recognized, the target for subject tracking can be manually specified. The camera will automatically track the specified subject as it moves to continuously keep it in focus. Should the specified subject temporarily leave the frame for less than three seconds, the camera will resume tracking it once it re-enters the frame.

Nikon's own compact design and new, thin lens barrel design has resulted in the thinnest body in its class with a 10x optical zoom NIKKOR lens and a depth of approximately 27.3 mm

The COOLPIX S8000 is the thinnest camera in its class despite a zoom lens that covers a broad focal range from wide-angle 30mm through super-telephoto 300mm (both 35mm format equivalent). This slim body was made possible with a new lens structure developed to reduce the length of the lens at the maximum telephoto position, a sliding mechanism that helps reduce body thickness when lens is retracted, and a lens-barrier structure that enables a lens barrel with a smaller diameter.

3-in., approximately 921k-dot, wide-viewing angle clear color panel TFT LCD monitor

A new structure that integrates the acrylic protection panel and LCD panel below it by eliminating the layer of air between the two has been adopted. This reduces reflection for overwhelmingly improved visibility outdoors for more vivid display of a broader range of colors and greater contrast. In addition to preserving the roughly 176-degree viewing angle, new technologies have been adopted for real-time control of backlight brightness, greater contrast and more efficient use of power.

Creative slider for simple adjustment of brightness, vividness and hue

Image Brightness (exposure compensation), Vividness and Hue can be easily adjusted using the camera monitor as a guide to suit individual imaging preferences. Adjustment can be made in auto shooting mode using the rotary multi selector on the back of the camera.

A sharp, high-performance design

The smooth curve around the lens gives the impression of a sharp, high-performance design. The rubber coating on the grip ensures a firm and steady hold for better operation. The COOLPIX S8000 will be available in four colors: black, champagne silver, red and brown.
