I bought the D40 body in the UK for just USD500 as it was a refurb/demo model. I just needed a cheapo body so I could move into digital without spending much. I use all my old lenses, not AF ones, and have no difficulty in getting the exposure right (90% of the time) and I am pretty accurate guessing distance. Some of my Nikkor glass is 40 years old but all of it performs well in the D40 - even the old 43-86mm zoom seems to enjoy digital more than film. Shots are more contrasty and look sharper!

I am very much an amateur photgrapher and very much looking to move forward a step after ordering the D40 last week. I have owned two other digi's, a Kodak DC210 and for the past four years a Fuji S304.

If anyone can help with a beginners guide to all the manual features (would need to cover from absolute basics)that would be much appeciated. I dont even know what a f number is!

I went to the Phillies - Red Sox (baseball for those not familiar with american sports) game yesterday afternoon. I have tried to take pictures with my D40, and the 70-300 zoom before, but those other times were night games under the lights. The bat was always partially blurred, and the ball as well. Yesterday was a beautiful bright day. It is amazing how much better photo's you can get in natural daylight, even with a lens that isn't that fast. (Of course, good seats help quite a bit too!! We were sitting 5 rows behind the Phillies dugout.)

Ok, I shot this photo tonight, we were getting quite the storm. C&c is welcome, i know this probaly need work but it was fun to shoot. Hopefully this is in the right place, I used a Nikon d40 with kit lens and focused to infinity and also used 3-15 second exposures.

Thanks and enjoy.

I needed to catere you one very small observation to help say thanks over again with your splendid advice you have featured above. It was quite generous with people like you to grant unhampered just what some people could have advertised for an ebook to make some money for their own end, notably given that you could have done it in the event you considered necessary. These tricks likewise served to become fantastic way to know that other people online have the identical desire much like my own to realize many more with regards to this problem. I believe there are a lot more fun situations ahead for people who go through your website.

Review by Kevin Wolf for Rating: The 2-way feature is great on this remote. But just because you’re paying 50-100 for this remote, don’t expect it to be high-quality. I’ve owned two in the past, and each one has broken the same way. The first problem- Solder joints. After a couple of months, the solder joints (on both) would break, especially around the battery terminals. Easy fix- Simply resolder the joints. Next, the cosmetic paint and light labels will rub off, and thats when things start to go downhill. If you keep it in your pocket like other car remotes, the plastic case will start to break- Notably at the top right corner. Once that happens, the remote looks awful, and the keyring will fall out because the tabs holding the two halves together have weakened too.On top of all that, the second remote I have sometimes beeps, and sometimes doesn’t.If you want the two-way feature, you can get this. But if you want a solid remote, consider buying the compatible 1-way version, P/N 7141V or 7141 P (python and viper remotes are interchangeable). It will not give you audible feedback, but it will save you frustration. They are compatible with the LED 2-way systems, too.I sure hope DEI’s new systems use better remotes. Its a mystery to me as to why Viper Alarm systems are as popular as they are- nothing but plastic junk in my opinion.UPDATE:I picked up a less expensive one-way Viper remote that is compatible with my system (I was tired of throwing down so much $$ for a piece of crap). It is about two months old, and is starting to crack as well.

Deep creases/darkness under eyes?Hi everyone,I am a full time working 24 year old young lady. I work early mornings (7am-3pm) and I wake up daily at 5AM. In one year after finishing university and working full time, I noticed much stress has accumulated in my life. The stress of new responsibilities, working my you know what off, constant back pain, a new health issue have really added to my appearance and overall feel as a person.I’ve noticed deep creases accumulating under my eyes within the past 6-8 months. At my age, it’s embarrassing to have these deep creases. It makes me look a lot older than I really am and it makes me feel horrible. To reduce the appearance of the deep crease and darkness under my eyes, I bought a highly rated eye wrinkle cream by La Roche Posay called Active C Eyes which was recommended for people with sensitive eye areas, which is what I have. I read a lot of reviews on the product and could not find ONE negative review. I also asked the beautician at one of the drug stores and this is what she recommended for my eye. To this day I am still trying this eye care product, but with 0% improvement. This is really not an exaggeration, it’s reality. The only thing I’ve found this product to be is very moisturizing and non irritating. Other than that, I see no improvement in my under eye appearance so this makes me think that this is an eye moisturizer, not an anti aging eye product.I don’t know what to do. I want to use a product that will work for my sensitive under eye skin area and something that will work. I don’t expect miracles over night, but I do expect improvement in time. I don’t mind spending a little more as long as I know the product will work.Anyone have similar problems and if so, what works? Any products? Please help!! Thanks

Does Dad or Mom have the dark circles, too? “More sleep” is only a good answer for about half the population who have this problem. Unfortunately, genetics is a big part of the issue for the rest of us that have this problem. But you can and should fight back, even if it’s genetics. The darkness is actually a lot like a bruise, little capillaries in the skin that have burst and swelled. There’s two strategies to use, attacking the cause of the problem, and covering up the effects. For “people who bruise easily” doctors recommend they increase the amounts of fruits and vegetables they eat. Not surprisingly, most “people who bruise easily” also have raccoon eyes. The advice to increase fruits and vegetables in your diet is something you really want to get on top of. Make a point to eat a lot more fruits and vegetables daily. You can do that by chugging a can of V8 juice every morning, and make a choice for orange juice whenever possible. Clear juices like apple juice really aren’t going to do much because they are mostly just water and sugar.Increase the amount of water you drink and watch your salt intake. Too much salt at any age has a bad effect on your capillaries. Increase the amount of potassium in your diet (which goes along with increasing fruits and vegetables). Potassium balances out the effects of salt.Take a daily multivitamin. Religiously use a nice strong but gentle sunscreen made for the face. If you have to have a tan on your face, get it out of a bottle; there’s plenty of excellent bronzers out there.Elevate the head of your bed by a couple of inches by shoving books under the bedposts. Do you have nasal allergies? Your eyes, nose, throat and ears are all interconnected. If you have been suffering with sneezing over the family cat, a prescription allergy medication may do wonders for your raccoon eyes as well. If you have sinus problems, put a hot compress or heating pad wrapped in a towel on your face daily to help everything drain. Eye creams with vitamin K, which strengthens capillaries, has also been clinically shown to help dark eyes. For cover-ups, there are dozens upon dozens of products for this very problem on the market. But remember, less is more. If you’re really unsure how to apply a cover-up for raccoon eyes, try going to store like Sephora or a large department store and asking for assistance. Always look for the oldest woman behind the counter because she will probably have the best experience with makeup; stay away from teen girls who will gleefully make you up like Tammy Faye Baker. (And don’t get talked into buying the latest beauty breakthrough from France that promises to cure everything from under-eye circles to monthly water weight gain…)

(Wireless Phone) After owning (and washing) the Samsung magnet, I was skeptical about the quality of this seemingly similar phone. However, I found that the Pantech Link is by far one of the best feature phones you can buy from at&t. I’ll go over the device step by step. 1. Hardware The keys have a great tactile fell. They are easy to press, and are very domed, which is great for quick, accurate typing. The screen is unusually high resolution for a $10 phone. The 1.3 megapixel camera is plenty, and takes clear, crisp pictures. The video camera is okay. Both allow you to chose how large of an image you want to take. There is an expansion slot for a micro-SD card up to 32gb (iPhone size!). This is necessary as the phone’s internal memory is only 80 mb. The back casing has a rubbery grip feel, which is nice. There is a fairly good quality speaker on the back. The volume up and down buttons are small and cramped. The proprietary pantech power Jack doubles as a headphone port, but if you want to use iPod headphones, you need to buy and adaptor. Overall, the phone feels high quality. 2. Connectivity Connects to AT&T 3G network, GSM and EDGE. I’m a Mac owner, so I use the Bluetooth file transfer utility on my Mac to transfer stored pictures, video, music, etc. The phone allows you to transfer files directly on to the micro SD card, which is critical for transferring on songs and videos. On windows, you can use windows media player to transfer songs using a special USB cable, sold separately. Web browser is simple, access to Media net, GPS, Yellow pages mobile, ATT music, ATT mobile email (gmail included) and the app center. Also access to ATT’s new online locker. 3. Messaging This phone is first and foremost a phone for messaging. The text messaging application is quite nice. Messages are shown in conversation mode, like on the iPhone. However, words don’t wrap properly in their speech bubbles. So texts more than a few words long may have fragmented words around the edges. Also, the speech bubble only shows two lines of text; longer messages must be viewed separately by clicking on them. When you send a message, an annoying and useless prompt comes up to tell you the message was successfully sent. It would be better to show a prompt if the message failed. 4. Calling What you would expect from a modern phone. Voice quality is okay. The Speaker phone and ringer get quite loud, and the vibrate is powerful. You also have the option to record calls, which can be useful. This won’t save on external memory, though. It can, however, be put on a computer through Bluetooth transfer. 5. Apps The phone comes preloaded with quite a number of apps and games, all of which, except for the media player, either access the data network or are demos, so if you don’t want to pay for data, don’t use them. The music player automatically manages all of your songs in internal and external memory. It reads mp3′s and m4a’s, but has trouble with artist name and genre. You can add new playlists to compensate for this. All apps, as well as phone, messaging, web browser, and music player, all support multitasking. This can be done by holding down the volume up button. There are icons for all of the above except for the apps, whose icon is the Java logo. Clicking on that will bring up the app manager, which allows you to open, start and stop apps. Unfortunately, pre loaded apps and games can’t be deleted. 6. Miscellaneous The phone tells you when you are accessing the data network by showing an orange 3G flame or orange E, as opposed to white versions of each. The file system is mediocre, I don’t want to see three different options to buy tones before it lists so songs. Luckily this doesn’t appear on external memory. All in all, this device is an excellent purchase for someone who doesn’t want to pay for a blackberry or iPhone but wants solid functionality at a great price.
