Nikon d700. Yes, it is a good camera. The price is a bit steep, but I guess with all that feature set, its worth it. The d700 is a pretty impressive camera. Too many buttons though. But I guess this gives the user more controls that is accessible.

I wonder why there aren't any high ISO images... The highest that they put up there is 400.

Go with Nikon. With dSLRs, IMHO, you must either buy Nikon or Canon. Both make surepb cameras which take surepb pictures. The thing that raises Nikon and Canon above all the others is that they have an enormous range of lenses which are easy to find. If you really must stray from the two big names, then at least get a camera that has a Nikon F lens mount so you can use Nikon lenses. But why not just buy a Nikon? There is also the matter of keeping your lenses as you upgrade your camera body. Nikon has kept one single type of lens mount through the company's long history. Canon have constantly upgraded and changed their lens mount which has made most old lenses totally useless with any modern camera body. Even the current line up of Canon bodies have three different lens mounts, so the lenses you buy for your first Canon body might not work on your second body and then you get hit again if you upgrade to a better body.If you are a total beginner then I would recommend the Nikon D40. It's cheaper than anything Canon make. In my opinion, Nikons are more intuitive and easy to use than Canons and look nicer.Reasons to choose the D40 over the D40x are:-Cheaper-Faster Fast Sync allows you to use fill flash to make spur of the moment snapshots look quite professional especially on sunny days.-Less grain (high ISO noise) and therefore higher image quality. The only real reason to buy the D40x is if you intend to print very very very large prints or if you're a sports/wildlife shooter who NEEDS to crop heavily.Don't worry about needing a pro body in the future. dSLRs in your price range are only designed to last for around 50,000 shots. This goes for ALL of them. So by the time you're a seasoned pro, you'll need a new body. Camera bodies are relatively cheap and disposable'. They're also old' and obsolete within a year or so, ESPECIALLY the cheaper entry level models. That doesn't mean your camera you buy now won't be any good in 12 months; it WILL; it just means that specs are moving very fast right now. Buy a cheap D40 and get some good lenses and an external flash.Goodluck!

If you actually mean the D300, well that’s in a totally different class. Much better build quality (magnesium vs. plastic/aluminum), far more features, etc. And a much higher price tag to match. However I assume you meant the entry level Nikon "D3000"? This is much more comparable to the Olympus E-450. Although the Nikon still has a superior autofocus system, larger viewfinder (even if it’s among the smallest of any Nikon dSLR), and better low light performance. Nikon also has a much broader selection of lenses… though not all are fully functional on the D3000.In its favor the E-450 does have "Live View" (eg. the option to compose your shots via the LCD, with some limitations). This is not something I would recommend using normally, but it can be rather useful feature when shooting from a tripod. Nikon has also equipped many of their new dSLRs with this feature, but not the D3000.References :
