Olympus E-P2

The stylish retro black metal body of the new E-P2 may be reminiscent of a traditional rangefinder – but there's nothing traditional about this powerful new camera from Olympus. The E-P2 is a 12.3-megapixel interchangeable lens camera, and it blends the high-quality still images of a DSLR with High Definition (HD) video, stereo Linear PCM audio recording and in-camera creativity – all inside an ultra-portable, easy-to-use body. The E-P2 also brings a new twist to the PEN lineup: an accessory port which accommodates the included VF-2 electronic view finder or optional external microphone adapter (EMA-1).

Olympus E-P1

ADAPT AND ACCESSORIZE

The E-P2 includes a port for new accessories including EMA-1 Microphone adapter and the VF-2 live-finder, a detachable electronic viewfinder that comes with the E-P2. The viewfinder easily slides onto the camera's accessory port and hot shoe to provide 1.15x magnification for a 100% field of view. The VF-2 rotates up 90 degrees which is useful when shooting subjects from challenging angles. Its diopter can be adjusted to allow most photographers to see subjects in perfect focus without wearing glasses. The external accessory port also allows for connection with the new EMA-1 external microphone connector for enhanced audio capture.

COMPLETE MULTIMEDIA FUNCTIONALITY

The E-P2 is the world's smallest 12.3-mexapixel interchangeable lens system camera, yet has the creative flexibility to give you a true professional experience with ease. A still photo, video and audio recorder in one, the E-P2 creates exceptional photos, inventive slide shows, and remarkable videos for sharing with family or for posting on many of today's social networking websites. It delivers professional quality images without the bulk of a conventional DSLR, thanks to its slim body and advanced high-speed imager AF (Live View) technologies.

GET FOCUSED, STAY FOCUSED

The E-P2's Imager Autofocus Live View with the new C-AF (Continuous Autofocus) Tracking and AF Target Registration locks your subject into focus, and constantly adjusts focus and brightness whether you or your subject is moving. With this mode, a simple push of the AF button and shutter release enables you to keep fast-moving and unpredictable subjects in focus – from left to right and front to back – automatically ensuring that even active subjects are captured clearly.

iENHANCE FOR RADIANT COLORS

The E-P2 also includes a new picture mode called iEnhance that automatically selects the correct exposure settings for subjects such as close-ups, sports and action, landscapes, portraits and night scenes, but has the power to also apply additional adjustments to color and contrast within each shot based on the subject. For example, an already beautiful sunset looks even more beautiful when warm colors are more saturated or brilliant. It is able to intelligently calculate and apply additional adjustments to make a good image exceptional! iEnhance is automatically engaged while shooting in iAuto, or can be selected through the menu as a picture mode if shooting in M A S or P.

HDMI CONTROL FROM YOUR COUCH

The E-P2 makes sharing your content easier than ever. Just connect it to your HDTV with an optional HDMI cable and use your HDTV's remote to control playback functions and navigate the camera's menus from the comfort of your couch.

MANUAL IN MOVIE MODE

The E-P2s manual movie mode (30fps and 720p) allows for independent control of aperture and shutter for expanded creative control. This fine control allows you to express your vision exactly how you want in your HD videos. Switch to shooting with Art Filters in Movie Mode for additional creative effects.

TWO NEW ART FILTERS

The E-P2 continues its tradition of innovation with eight in-camera art filters including the new Diorama and Cross Process filters. The Diorama art filter gives users a miniature model photo feeling by narrowing the depth of focus and enhancing color and contrast. The selective focus that this filter offers lends intimacy to images of even the largest subjects like canyons or cityscapes. The Cross Process art filter offers an unexpected look to images and videos by changing the color and contrast of subjects. Using this mode can result in surreal other-worldly images. These new filters are a welcome addition to the Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pale & Light Color, Light Tone, Grainy Film and Pin Hole filters previously available on the E-P1.

MAGNIFIED FOCUS ASSIST

The E-P2 provides two optional methods to help the user focus: a Magnified Focus (MF) Assist Function and Magnification Display. When using manual focus, the MF Assist feature aids with critical focus by allowing you to zoom in on part of the image by simply turning the focusing ring on the front of the lens. The Magnification Display enables you to selectively enlarge the image on the LCD at the touch of a button. This mode works for both autofocus and manual focus. Both MF Assist methods provide up to a 10x magnification of a single point of the image for critical focus; perfect for macro or still-life photography.

12 MILLION PIXELS

With 12.3 megapixels at its disposal, the E-P2 delivers image quality that makes the difference between ordinary and exceptional still and video imaging. A Live MOS image sensor is complemented by a next generation TruePic V Image Processor, resulting in excellent dynamic range, accurate color fidelity, fine image details in all highlight and shadow areas, up to 6400 ISO, and reduced noise.

AUTOFOCUS LIVE VIEW

The Live View Autofocus system works as effectively and seamlessly on the E-P2 as it does on conventional E-System DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras. Subjects are displayed in complete focus on the bright LCD as soon as the shutter is pressed half way.

BLUR-FREE, DUST-FREE IMAGING

Say goodbye to blurry and blemished images. In both still and Movie modes the E-P2 Image Stabilization excels. The E-P2's three-mode In-body Image Stabilization system compensates for up to four shutter speed steps in the still shooting modes with any of its interchangeable lenses: Mode 1 for general shooting, Mode 2 for creative high-speed horizontal capture, and Mode 3 for high-speed vertical capture. The camera's Mechanical Image Stabilization automatically compensates for camera shake in low-light situations or when using a telephoto lens. In the Movie Modes the advanced Electronic Image Stabilization tracts the images both vertically and horizontally to achieve clear sharp movies, matching the performance of the in body IS. A Dust Reduction System assures spot-free images via a patented ultrasonic technology called the Supersonic Wave Filter, which vibrates to remove dust and other particles from the image sensor and confines them to a special adhesive membrane.

MULTIPLE EXPOSURE

A Multiple Exposure function enables you to be creative right in the camera. Multiple images can be captured and combined to create one unique image. The creative possibilities are endless.

AUTO ADJUSTMENT AND FACE DETECTION

The camera has 19 automatic scene modes, including Night-Scenes, Portraits and Landscapes. Its Intelligent Auto Mode (iAuto) identifies your shooting intent (including macro or sport photography) and adjusts the settings accordingly to achieve the best results. The ePortrait Mode allows you to soften shadows and smooth out facial features, either before image capture or during post-capture edits. And the Face Detection function captures up to eight faces, reducing the chance of blurred subjects when shooting several people at once.

SHADOW ADJUSTMENT

You no longer need to worry about the extreme contrast between dark and bright areas in your images. The E-P2's Shadow Adjustment Technology corrects for extreme light variations with high-tech efficiency. This can also be used in post-editing.

PRO AUDIO

The recording capabilities of the E-P2 are versatile enough for all your audio needs, whether shooting stills or video. With its built-in microphones, the system can capture all the subtle nuances of any sounds you're trying to capture. The E-P2 is capable of recording and playing back WAV files, and is perfect for adding narration to still images.

BE A MOVER, NOT A SHAKER

Any lens attached to the E-P2 will deliver blur-free images thanks to three modes of In-body Image Stabilization that compensate for up to four EV (exposure value) steps. Mechanical Image Stabilization automatically compensates for camera shake in low light or when shooting with out a tripod. Since the E-P2 is a very small interchangeable lens camera with built-in Image Stabilization, you'll feel comfortable taking it on the road with you to capture the action. As an added advantage, the built-in image stabilization works not only with the M. Zuiko lenses but all Four Thirds lenses and even older film-based lenses when used with the appropriate adapter for the E-P2.

TOTAL LIVE CONTROL

With the E-P2 you are in full control of all functions and imaging decisions—with split-second accuracy. Live Control, an advanced control panel system, allows you to see the image and the controls all at once on the 3-inch HyperCrystal LCD, which is noted for its vivid colors and high contrast. Whether using full manual control or all the automatic features, first-time users will feel like pros, and pros will create still images or videos that continue to push their own boundaries of creativity. The standard Olympus DSLR supercontrol panel is also available.
