I've had this for three weeks. Never read the manual. You can work it all out. It's ultralight and with the kit zooms, only weighs 2lb. My 1ds plus 28-70 weighs 6lb!! Nice to use, fast, good autofocus, good AWB. What I love is that the menu is on in the LCD unless you turn it off. Whatever you changed last is selected by pressing OK button, unless you've turned camera off. The kit lenses are really good (as good as bigger zooms which I have, but slower). Camera is NOT too small. My one criticism is that shutter button is a bit too sensitive for my liking. Also, the USB cable is proprietary. Don't like that.
Image quality is really good. You need a fair bit of sharpening. I've stuck to JPEGs as my 2 Raw converters (Bibble and ACDsee) are not yet compatible. Noise is of course greater than my 1ds but not bad and is way better than an all-in-one camera. I don't shoot much at high ISOs. Viewfinder image is small but that's never bothered me. LCD viewing is fast and slick.

Ive used it for 3weeks
If you are looking for a small DSLR I think this one has it all!! Iīve used it for 3weeks now and cannot think much bad to say about it. It didnīt have any malfunctions when I took it out for filming in -20 degrees celcius. Only thing that bothers me a bit is the amount of sequence photos it takes in a row (is enough for majority of DSLR users), but I knew it when I bought it. And yet I havenīt had a situation where Iīd needed more. The kit lenses are superb exept a bit platicy. Almost impossible to get flare(thanks to ED-element?). E-400 has incredible amount of features inside(AEL/AFL-button, spotmetering, highlight, shadow, FN-preview button etc.) and is very easy to use. You can also save two setting options to the memory: My options are for using a manual flashgun(donīt have FL-36) and for sequence shooting. A photographer (for more than 30 years) who uses Nikon D2X said to me that he would rather take E-400īs menus and the infopanel where you can make most of adjustes. OK there is some noise but it hasnīt bothered me yet. The VF is a bit small, but hey I compare it to OM-4īs which I believe is one of the best ever made.
(I doubt mr. digitalrebelman, who reviewed this also, has had the time to really use the camera outside a shop. Though he has some point in the cons section. Digital-rebel-man? Canon enthusiastic? propably)

I love this little camera. I'm not usually a fan of small cameras but the E-400 feels really good to use. Menus are easy to use and controls easy to change with practice. The whole camera seems just that bit faster to use than previous models. Image quality is very good - it takes great JPEGs. Now at a bargain price - you can't lose!
