The Panasonic GF1 is the best compact digital camera that I have ever owned. It is small and with the 20mm f1.7 lens, it will fit easily in my pocket. I cannot fit the G1/GH1 in my pocket, it is just too bulky. I can and do take the GF1 everywhere I go as it is less bulky and small enough to fit in a pocket. In my opinion, the images from the GF1 is excellent comparing to my other compact point n shoot digital cameras. I don't use a viewfinder nor a flash. I turn the built-in flash off on all of my point n shoot cameras. I sold my Canon digital camera and brought the Canon G9 which I like but still a little bulky, I have the Ricoh GR Digital, the Ricoh GX100 and the Ricoh CX1 and now the Ricoh CX2. The Panasonic GF1 images are better that images from those digital cameras. The Panasonic GF1 with the 20mm f1.7 pancake lens is hard to beat in the point n shoot group. In a couple more years, there will be a lot more lenses for the Panasonic GF1. The one and main thing that I did not like about the Canon DSLR is that it was too bulky to fit in my pocket and it normal stayed home most of the time.

The best in its class
Sold my Nikon D40 a while ago and got the GF1 pancake kit recently. I never have the habit to carry my D40 around for everyday chores only for special occasion but the GF1 changed that trend and has become my everyday camera that goes with me anywhere. The compactness of GF1 + pancake lens is incomparable it easily slip into my jacket without hassle. It has everything I need in one little package, the design, the image quality, the features, good battery life, video mode 720p. The pancake lens is good for almost every situation. The combination of the two make it a perfect pair. Now I'm a fan of Panasonic lumix.
One thing I wish for this camera is to have built in IS.

Focus on Focus
I will not bore you with a big technical review.. My first impression is, the images are just wonderful. That said, the LCD panel is too dim to focus outdoors without an aid of some sort. I found the LCD accessory finder too dim outdoors for critical focus in the manual focus mode, or with lenses adapted too this camera that can not be used in auto focus mode.. SO beware. A optical viewfinder would be a great thing on what would otherwise be really a perfect camera. I have shot my Nikkor optics on this camera and with the small eye level finder, focusing the 105mm lens out near infinity, I find the viewfinder has too few pixels to render the image in good enough detail for me to be sure I got the focus just right... Oh boy the images that are in focus are just WOW... an amazing little camera I love mine.
