Excellent resolution and image quality with the 14.6Mp sensor and even the high ISO image quality is also outstanding. Build quality and feature set are excellent as are the ergonomics and user interface. I stated this on Pentax SLR Talk, and I will repeat it here, the K20D is like a K10D on steroids!

Today the best DSLR on market for money.

It destroies the Canon 40D ('only' 10 mpixel) and most expensive, and races with Nikon D300 (much most expensive)

fantastic camera. low noise high iso + great primes + in body stabilisation means best tool on the market for low light. complete pleasure to use

Cons:

no probs. great in all respects. only aspect where competition is clearly better is sports/action (super tele + fps is where pentax is weak)

After two weeks, I need to say I'm rather impressed.. It IS an upgrade over my K10D, which I wasn't expecting, actually. The K20D (just like the K10D before it) has lots of little features you wouldn't otherwise expect, which in part may seem minor - but add up to a big difference. Big fan of the multiple exposure settings, and the dust reduction actually seems to work.

Cons:

Navigating through all the settings is getting a bit more complex as Pentax keeps adding stuff, but it's not much trouble.

I got my K20D

I got my K20D pretty much right after it was available. Some people tend to think that you should wait until all the "bugs" are worked out of the firmware. but I was pleasantly surprised at the performance and quality of the camera. It has everything the K10D has plus much, MUCH more. The much improved high ISO noise level was welcomed as well as the lesser improvements such as the missing PC Sync socket and Live View. The image quality of the K20D is much smoother with rich color gradations. AF Lock is quicker than the K10D, and the shutter is a lot quieter. All in all, a very pleasant camera to use.

Cons:

Low light AF could be improved (Infra-red AF Assist light perhaps?)

I have previously had both the 40D and D200 and was waiting to see what camera gave me the best IQ, after getting a few test shots from someone with a K20D I was sold. Good build, weather sealed, great usable features and most of all, the best IQ of any camera less than $2500 at the time. I went as far as comparing studio shots from the K20D vs the 5D and at low iso it quite easily matched the 5D for IQ. I even had owners with D300's drop their jaws in AWE with the detail the K20D delivers.

It might be missing some wizz bang features, the live view is usable for it's purpose and needs faster FPS but if IQ is your first and formost concern this is the camera to get.

Cons:

Once in a while strange exposures.

just ok at hi iso but no worse than any other APS-C camera

The Pentax K20D is an outstanding camera. It is very solidly built and has weather and dust sealing. The ergonomics are also great. Image quality is amazing, the 14mp CMOS captures A LOT of detail and ISO 1600 is very usable. This camera is made by photographers for photographers. It has none of the extra fat that many other cameras carry along. Every feature on the camera is useful.

Problems:

Live view missing a few features but still very usable.

Correction here Sir. I own the PENTAX K100D Super. Using a fast Class 4 SD Card, The PENTAX K100D K100D Super Buffer with Faster SD 2 Gigabyte Card Shoots 6 Frames in Continuous 2.8 Frames/Second NOT your statement of only 5 Frames. I Know its only 1 Frame more at 2.8 Frames/Second but it is THERE when you use a fatser SD Card and Fully Clear the Continuous Frame Buffer, it is 6 Frames Continuous Shooting NOT 5 Frames Continuous. Improve and Test your Specifications!!!!
