W60 is a fine little camera with convenient zoom range and satisfactory image quality. Images are better than with other P&S cameras at elevated sensitivity. Macro is just short of excellent and after using it for more than 3-4 hours underwater it has shown no stress at all. Mind you that although optical zooming can be used during movie taking it’s very noisy. In addition with the choice of continuous focusing on, a rattling noise is also recorded. There is also a minor issue of noise even at lower iso settings but nothing to make me regret for my choice. The conclusion is that w60 is a fun camera that will not betray you in many adverse situations.

I support technology and a photo studio so my review is influenced by using and setup of many cameras. This camera is great for its intended purposes sitting with some Olympus model as water and freeze resistant, but having the edge if you value form factor, video and price. Users may be disappointed if they judge image quality against models at same price without the water resistant design. It's a shut up and buy it camera if wide angle, zoom, small, light and resistance to the elements are important.

Problems
This camera like too many for consumer use require one to know the modes and menus to get performance. The secret to get over these problems is setup focus mode and ISO functions with the "green button".

W60 pics

I'm happy with my new W60. I did have a couple of pics where the left side of the image was not in focus, but this resolved itself by cycling the power off and on. I've learned to keep the ISO at 400 while kayaking, 200 just isn't fast enough at telephoto.

Battery life was poor, until I quit letting the camera auto power off, and habitually turned it off manually. The camera has a relatively quick turn on time, so I haven't missed many shots.

Most of these were shot at 3 or 5 MP, sharpness and contrast set to minimum, saturation set to medium, had auto levels/auto color/unsharp mask applied and uploaded to Picasa at smaller resolutions.

failure

My W60 shuts down after 3 seconds after being switched on, or when I use the zoom function.

I have it since 5 months, no shock, no water nothing.

They are not able to repair it.

I strongly discourage to buy one.
