This is my first DSLR from a film Minolta. I love this camera. I bought it on a Black Friday special which included a 80-200 lens. The pictures are great for a JPEG image from a camera. The case is solid compared to Canon cameras. It is pretty hefty in weight. But it is good to feel like your camera is built tough.

Just purchased this camera with the rebate. For the money this is an excellent camera! Getting use to all the settings yet. Love that I can use my old AF lens with camera! My old 35mm film camera died on me and when I found out you could use those lens with the digital, I couldn't pass this up! Pictures are beautiful! The 6.0 mp is fine for what I use the photos for. Anti shake is great too!

5 months experience
I've owned this entry level DSLR for approximately 5 months - so far I'm fairly impressed, particularly with what you get for the money. The build is solid and the camera fairly weighty despite its dimensions, the CCD-shift shake reduction in the body is nice as is the dust removal. Some users may yearn for more control on the outside of the body in the form of a second wheel if they shoot in full manual or a programmable button for something like white balance - for the purposes of my shooting this isn't a problem. I purchased the camera for it's compact size and good lowlight performance - the image quality is about as good as 6mp gets; I frequently shoot at ISO 3200 and am not offended by the results, though admittedly I do post process considerably.
If you have Pentax glass and need a small inexpensive body, this is really your choice until the K200D drops in price (it is just arriving for sale as I write this review). The K10D, the K100D's bigger brother, should also be dropping in price shortly and both cameras will likely have production ceased in the very near future. Great values while they last.
Problems:
In exchange for the in-body Shake Reduction, one has to accept that Pentax's autofocus tends to be a little more sluggish than competing brands. In the long run you also save considerable money with Pentax at the expense of a limited range of lenses... all about tradeoffs.

Very simply, the flexibility, quality, and price of this system is without parallel. I have shot a number of challenging automotive racing events during challenging lightening conditions and this camera has always performed well, even in using 20 year old $20 glass purchased from eBay. Portraits are warm. SR is outstanding. ISO 1600 which I use frequently still looks brilliant. I have toted this camera around for Rally car racing events and in all kind of harsh conditions without any issue. The camera feels well built and has had flawless operation since purchased last year. I also considered the Nikon D70 and D40. The flexibility of using old lenses coupled with the SR made this a pretty easy choice. Could not be happier.
