the cheapest sony point-and shoot camera on the market for now, easy for use, new SMILE shooting option which is quite interesting, good face detection, well balanced automatic settings. Good image stabilization.
THERE IS NO PICTURE QUALITY LEVEL setting as written in the preview of the camera!!! The quality level setting is only for the movies!
Problems
1. biggest problem - no jpeg quality setting at all, the embedded JPEG compression is too big - pics are TOO MUCH over compressed, with visible and annoying JPEG compression artifacts - lack of detail, blurry regions, diluted contrast. Most pics shooted at ISO over 100 have no color noise because its blurred. Poor new BIONZ image processor! /pics are just about 2.2 Mbyte for a 7 Mpix camera!!!/
2. No zoom in movie mode, movies a bit overcompressed.
3. The new SONY menu is too slow and confusing. There is fully useless button HOME which serves for nothing.
4. this model is made in China - it can easily be guessed by the construction - when you take it in your hand you will easily feel the light not very well manufactured body, which cracks when you press it a little bit, some parts as caps do not fully coincide in their own beds. the lens pops-up with irregular non uniform sound, which sounds worrying.
5. the flash is usable only when the object is close up to about 2 meters /common problem for all cameras from this class/.
6. the LCD is only 115K pixels, compared to 230 in Canon ixus series and most other manufacturers.
7. When in MOVIE mode, standard compression, it could be easily seen that the frame rate is less than 30 fps /same for all other Sony cameras/
