I'm eagerly waiting for reviews of the Sony W170, the Lumix TZ5 and the Fuji F100FD. I currently own a W80 and I'm surprised about some of the so so reviews that it got. I have used it for over a year and I have really enjoyed it and got some very nice pics from it. Although I do try to stick to ISO 100 most of the time. But when compare the test pics of ISO 400 and 800 to some of the other P&S side by side, it actually looks quite a bit better to me than some of the more highly rated P&S. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the W170.
The reason I want to upgrade is for the wide angle lens and extra zoom. I had previously bought the TZ3 because of its versatility but returned it because I didn't find the IQ sharp enough. I'm surprised that the TZ3 received a better review for image quality than the W80. I hope that the TZ5 will be better, the specs and new Venus IV engine are encouraging and so are the test pics on the Panasonic website. That would be my first pic if I'm happy with the IQ.
Both the W170 and the TZ5 have a very slightly bigger sensor than their previous versions (and than the W130) but with more MPs I assume that slight difference won't mean much. Hopefully it can make enough of a difference to bear the extra MPs.
I have a lot of hope for the F100FD as well but I also have an F30FD and while I love the IQ, I only use it indoors because of the high amount of purple fringing on some of the outdoor pics I took.
So it will be one of those 3 and I will probably agonize over which one to pick in the end, their predecessors all have something I really like which the other ones don't have: I like the Sony for its speed and reliability as a P&S, I like the TZ3 for its versatility, and I like the Fuji for its IQ and controls (minus the purple fringing). If I could have my way I would combine them all into one and I would have the perfect P&S as far as I'm concerned :-)
